Question 1481: I have had some grape juice in a container for a while to make grape vinegar, but it has not turned into vinegar yet. Can I sell it due to financial need?

Answer
✅ Answer: Please pay attention to the following narrations:
📚 Al-Kafi Vol. 5, p. 232
Abi Kahmas said: A man asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about grape juice and said: I have a grape tree, and every year I get grape juice and pour it into large jars, and I sell it before it ferments. The Imam said: There is no problem, but if it ferments, its sale is not lawful!
📚 Tahdhib Vol. 9, p. 127
Mawla Hurr ibn Yazid said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) and said: I make drinks from honey and other things, and people commission me to make them for them, and I do so. The Imam said: Make it and hand it over to them while it is lawful, before it becomes an intoxicant!
📚 Qurb al-Isnad p. 116.
Ali ibn Ja'far said: I asked Musa ibn Ja'far (peace be upon him) about wine that is first wine and then turns into edible vinegar; the Imam said: There is no problem as long as its intoxicating effect is gone!
📚 Al-Kafi Vol. 6, p. 420
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Grape juice, if it is cooked until two-thirds of it are gone and one-third of it remains, then it is lawful!
✅ Based on the above narrations and others, the sale of grape juice is lawful before it ferments due to heating or keeping, but when it ferments due to heating or keeping, its sale becomes unlawful.
✅ The way for grape juice that has been heated and has fermented to become lawful for sale is to heat it until two-thirds of it evaporate and one-third remains.
And the way for grape juice that has fermented due to being kept to become lawful for sale is to keep it until it turns into vinegar, and the time required for this varies depending on the warmth and coldness of the weather, the amount of grape juice in the container, and other conditions.
✅ Therefore, the sale and drinking of grape juice that has fermented due to being kept but has not yet turned into vinegar is not lawful until it turns into vinegar, and its sale and consumption become lawful.
(Nashish: It is the bubbling of wine, where small bubbles from the bottom and inside the container of the juice begin to rise and form a foam on it)
