📚 Al-Faqih, Vol. 3, p. 266

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 5, p. 89

Hasan ibn Jahm said: 'I heard Imam Ridha (peace be upon him) say: 'Indeed, when a person brings in the food for the year, his back becomes light and he finds peace.' And Imam Baqir and Imam Sadiq (peace be upon them) would not buy any property until they had provided and stored the food for the year!'

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 5, p. 89

Imam Kadhim (peace be upon him) said: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: 'Indeed, the soul finds rest and peace when its sustenance and food are provided and stored!'

📚 Ma'ani al-Akhbar, p. 152, hadith 1

A person asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about zakat, how much a (poor) person should take from it? He said: 'Indeed, people are given (an amount) from year to year, so a (needy) person can take an amount that is sufficient for him and his dependents and those whom he feeds from this year until the next year!'

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 5, p. 68

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said in a hadith: 'Then those whose virtue and asceticism you know are Salman and Abudhar (may Allah have mercy on them):

As for Salman, when he would receive his gift, he would take from it the sustenance and food for his year until his next year's gift arrived!'

So it was said to Salman: 'O Abudallah! You do this despite your asceticism, and you do not know, perhaps you will die today or tomorrow!'

So Salman's answer to them was that he said: 'What is wrong with you that you do not hope for my survival as you fear my demise?!'

O ignorant ones! Do you not know that when the soul does not have what it depends on for its livelihood, it is agitated and uncooperative with its owner, but when its livelihood, sustenance, and provisions are provided and stored, it finds peace!'

6 Imam Kadhim (peace be upon him) said about the method of distributing khums by the Imam among the Sayyids:

He distributes the khums in its places in an amount that makes them free from want for their year, without being strict or tight with them!

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 1, p. 541

7 Ali ibn Isma'il said: 'I asked Imam Kadhim (peace be upon him) about a beggar who has one day's food with him. Is it permissible for him to ask for something? And if he is given something before he asks, is it permissible for him to accept it?' The Imam said: '(Even) if he has a month's worth of food with him, he can take from zakat an amount that is sufficient for him for a year, for the measure is from this year to the next year (i.e., one year)!'

📚 Ilal al-Shara'i, p. 371

✅ Providing and storing a year's worth of livelihood, in addition to not being reprehensible, is praised in various narrations and has been introduced as the practice of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) themselves.
