Question 615: Is it permissible to sell carrion and the meat of forbidden animals, such as pork, to a non-Muslim?
Answer
✅Answer: Please pay attention to the following narrations:
📚 Al-Ja'fariyat, p. 172
Ali (peace be upon him) said: The seller of forbidden and impure things and its buyer are equal in sin!
📚 Al-Muqni'ah, p. 45
Muhammad ibn Muslim asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about the tax and jizya of the People of the Book (Ahl al-Dhimmah) that they pay from the price of their wines, their pigs, and their carrion; is it permissible for the Imam to take it and is it pure and lawful for the Muslims? The Imam said: (Taking the price of these things in the tax and jizya) is lawful for the Imam and the Muslims, and it is forbidden for the People of the Book and they bear the burden of its sin!
✅It is clear that the People of the Book sold their pigs and carrion to non-Muslims and took their price, which the Imam declared forbidden and considered them to bear the burden of its sin.
📚 Al-Faqih, Vol. 4, p. 363
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said in his will to Ali (peace be upon him): O Ali! Among the forbidden earnings (suht) are the price of carrion, the price of a dog, the dowry of a fornicating woman, bribery in judgment, and the wage of a soothsayer.
📚 Wasa'il (30 volumes), Vol. 17, p. 84
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said in a hadith: As for the forbidden aspects of buying and selling, they are every matter in which there is corruption, from what is forbidden to be eaten, drunk, earned, married, owned, kept, gifted, or lent, or something in which there is an aspect of corruption, such as: usurious sale, or the sale of carrion, or pork, or the meat of wild beasts from all wild animals and birds, or their skins, and also wine, or anything from impure matters, all of which are absolutely forbidden....
5 Bizanti said: I asked Imam Reza (peace be upon him) about a person who has a flock of sheep and cuts off their fat tails while they are alive, is it permissible for him to use the cut-off fat tails? He said: Yes, he can melt them and light a lamp with them but he should not eat them and they should not be sold.
📚 Mustadrafat al-Sara'ir, p. 55
✅In multiple narrational evidences, a few of which were mentioned, the buying and selling of carrion and the meat of forbidden animals is declared forbidden, and no exception has been reported for selling them to non-Muslims, and therefore, selling forbidden meats, including carrion and the meat of forbidden animals, to both Muslims and non-Muslims is forbidden.
✅However, selling dough that has been kneaded with impure water and lawful sacrifices that have been mixed with carrion and are not separable, in narrations 📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p. 260 and 📚 Al-Tahdheeb, Vol. 1, p. 414, is permitted to those who consider carrion lawful (i.e., non-Muslims).
