Answer
✅ There is no specific narration prohibiting marriage during a solar or lunar eclipse, however:
1 Imam Reza, peace be upon him, said: 'Indeed, the eclipse prayer has been legislated because it is one of the signs of Allah, and it is unknown whether it has appeared for mercy or for punishment! So, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) loved for his nation to seek refuge with their Creator and the Most Merciful at that time so that He would avert its evil from them and protect them from its displeasure, just as He averted it from the people of Yunus (upon our Prophet and his family and upon him be peace) when they humbled themselves before Allah.'
📚 Al-Faqih, vol. 1, p. 541
2 Imam Sajjad, peace be upon him, after mentioning the reason for the solar and lunar eclipse, said: 'Indeed, no one is frightened and does not fear these two signs except for those who are from our Shia. So when this happens, seek refuge with Allah, the Mighty and Exalted, and return to Him.'
📚 Al-Faqih, vol. 1, p. 539
📚 Tahdhib, vol. 3, p. 156
Imam Sadegh, peace be upon him, said: 'In the eclipse prayer, if you finish the prayer before the eclipse ends, repeat the prayer!'
✅ It is also worth noting that in the hadith 📚 Al-Tahdhib, vol. 3, p. 291, finishing the prayer before the moon and sun return to normal and not repeating the prayer is also considered permissible.
✅ As mentioned, although no prohibition on marriage during an eclipse has been narrated, during the time of a solar or lunar eclipse, we have been obligated to perform the eclipse prayer, to repeat it until the eclipse ends, to repent, to humble ourselves, to be in awe, and to seek refuge in the mosques and with Allah.
✅ Regarding the prohibition of sexual intercourse:
📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 5, p. 498
Salim said: 'I asked Imam Baqir, peace be upon him: 'Is sexual intercourse disapproved of at any time, even with a lawful spouse?' The Imam said: 'Yes:'
Between the break of dawn and sunrise
And from sunset until the setting of the twilight
And on the day of a solar eclipse
And on the night of a lunar eclipse
And on the day and night of a black, red, or yellow wind
And on the day and night of an earthquake.
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spent the night with one of his wives during which a lunar eclipse occurred. He did not do what he would normally do on other nights until morning came!
The wife said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Was this act caused by your aversion on this night?' He said: 'No, but on this night, this sign (the lunar eclipse) appeared, and I did not like to seek pleasure and be preoccupied on this night, for Allah has censured some nations in His Book and said:'
Then Imam Baqir, peace be upon him, said: 'By Allah, no one will engage in sexual intercourse during these times that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited, while this narration has reached him, and a child is born to him, except that he will not see what he loves in that child!'
