Question 552: Is there a source in narrations for kissing the charity and the hand of the beggar?
Answer
✅ Answer:
📚 Tafsir al-'Ayyashi Vol. 2, p. 107
Imam Baqir (peace be upon him): The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) said: One day I gave one dinar in charity. So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said to me: Do you not know that the charity of a believer does not leave his hand until 70 devils separate and leave from between his jaws (or from between his beard), and it does not fall into the hand of the beggar until it falls into the hand of the Lord, Blessed and Exalted is He!
Have you not recited this verse: 'Do they not know that Allah accepts repentance from His servants and takes the charities...'?
Surah At-Tawbah, verse 104
📚 Tafsir al-'Ayyashi Vol. 2, p. 107
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Allah has not created anything except that a keeper guards it, except for charity, for the Lord Himself takes it. And my father, when he would give something in charity, he would place it in the hand of the beggar and then take it back from him and kiss it and smell it, and then he would return it to the hand of the beggar again. And this is because charity falls into the hand of God before it falls into the hand of the beggar, so I loved to kiss it because God is the one who takes it!
📚 Al-Khisal p. 619
Ali (peace be upon him) said in the 400 Hadith: When you give something to a beggar, ask him to pray for you... and the one who gives to the beggar should return his hand to his mouth and kiss it, for God takes it before it falls into the hand of the beggar, as the Almighty God has said: 'Do they not know that Allah accepts repentance from His servants and takes the charities'
📚 Amali Tusi Vol. 2, p. 285
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Imam Sajjad (peace be upon him) used to say: Charity extinguishes the wrath of the Lord, and he said: That حضرت (Imam) used to kiss the charity before giving it to the beggar!
He was asked: What makes you do this? He said: I do not kiss the hand of the beggar, I only kiss the hand of my Lord, for indeed charity falls into the hand of my Lord before it falls into the hand of the beggar!
✅ Points from the above narrations:
⬅️ Kissing and smelling the charity after giving it to the beggar
⬅️ Kissing the charity before giving it to the beggar
⬅️ Kissing the hand with which the charity was given after the charity
✅ The 'Hand of God' is not like the hand of a created being, because God is not described with a body, and its explanation has come in the discussions of monotheism.

Imam Reza (peace be upon him) said:
He who remembers what befell us and weeps for what they committed against us, will be with us in our place on the Day of Judgment, and he whose calamity is remembered (or mentioned to him) and he weeps and makes others weep, his eye will not weep on the day when eyes weep
And he who sits in a gathering where our matter is revived, his heart will not die on the day when hearts die!
