Answer

✅Answer: Yes, and the narrations are too numerous to list in this brief note, but for completeness, one very important narration is mentioned:

📚Al-‘Ilal, Vol. 1, p.108

Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Recognizing the self (Nafs) means to know your own self, that is, to know your self by the four temperaments, four pillars, and four elements!

And his four temperaments are: blood, yellow bile, black bile, and phlegm.

And his four pillars are: 'Aql' (intellect) and wisdom, which comes from intellect; 'Fahm' (understanding), 'Memory', and 'Knowledge'.

And his four elements are: Light, Heat (Fire), Spirit, and Water.

Through light he sees and hears, reasons and comprehends; through fire (heat) he eats and drinks; through spirit he copulates and moves; and through water he tastes edible and drinkable things. Thus, this constitutes the formation of his body.

If he is wise, has memory, is sharp, perceptive and understanding, he recognizes what exists in him, from where matters reach him, why he is in this world, and where he will go through sincerity in the Oneness of God and acknowledgment of obedience.

Indeed, sometimes the Nafs flows while hot and sometimes while cold. When heat dominates, he becomes arrogant, joyful, commits killing and theft, engages in fornication, and is active and proud. When cold dominates, he becomes sad, calm, withered, forgetful, and hopeless. This dominance of heat and cold is one of the causes of diseases, because it is the pathway to illness, often beginning with a sin and consuming food or drink at an inappropriate time, resulting in illness.

The Imam further said: The limbs, veins, and members of a person are ready soldiers for God, and whenever God wills to make him sick, He imposes it on him from the source He intends.

✅The interpretation of recognizing the self and the importance of avoiding sin for bodily health, the effects of dominance of cold or heat, and the impact of improper foods and drinks on disease, are all significant in the above narration and worthy of deep reflection.

✅There are many important narrations on this topic, and it is recommended that believers study them to benefit in this world and the Hereafter, InshaAllah.

Question 407: What is the ‘iddah (waiting period) for divorce?

✅Answer: The ‘iddah for a woman varies depending on whether she is menopausal, non-consummated, minor, pregnant, menstruating regularly, menstruation-free, or irregular. In this brief note, the ‘iddah of a menstruating woman is addressed.

✅A regularly menstruating woman is one who menstruates once every month.

📚Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p.100

Halabi narrates from Abu Abdullah Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) that he said:

The ‘iddah of a woman who does not menstruate, or a woman whose menstruation is incomplete, is three months; the ‘iddah of a woman who menstruates regularly is three Qur’ readings (purity periods between two menstruations)!

📚Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p.86

Zarara said to Abu Ja'far Imam al-Baqir (peace be upon him): May God improve your affairs. A man divorced his wife while she was in a state of purity, without intercourse, with the testimony of two just men. He said: When the third menstruation occurs, her ‘iddah is complete, and she becomes lawful for marriage. I said: May God improve your affairs. People in Iraq narrate that Ali (peace be upon him) said: He (the former husband) is more entitled to return to her until she performs the Ghusl of the third menstruation. He said: Surely they lied.

📚Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p.88

Abdul Rahman ibn Abu Abdullah said: I asked Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) when a woman whose husband divorces her becomes lawful for marriage. He said: When she sees the blood of the third menstruation, then she has control over herself...

✅According to the Shi’a narrations mentioned above, the ‘iddah of a non-menopausal, non-pregnant, consummated woman whose menstruation is regular is three Qur’ readings.

The woman is divorced during a state of purity, becomes pure after the first menstruation, then menstruates a second time, becomes pure again, and after the third menstruation begins, her ‘iddah ends and she can marry.

✅In 📚Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p.423, Imam al-Baqir (peace be upon him) regarding the Friday sermon mentions that for the second sermon, after sending blessings on each of the Pure Imams (peace be upon them), when you reach your master, Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him), say:
