Question 351: Does Ghusl al-Jumu'ah (Friday bath) and other ritual baths suffice for ablution (Wudu)?

Answer
✅Answer: Please pay attention to the following narrations:
📚 Tahdhib, vol. 1, p. 139
Translation: Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: 'Ghusl suffices for Wudu, and what Wudu is more purifying than Ghusl?'
📚 Tahdhib, vol. 1, p. 141
Translation: Hamdani wrote a letter to Imam Muhammad al-Taqi (peace be upon him) and asked him about performing Wudu for Ghusl al-Jumu'ah; the Imam said: 'There is no Wudu for prayer in Ghusl al-Jumu'ah or any other.'
📚 Tahdhib, vol. 1, p. 141
Translation: Ammar said: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) was asked about a person who performs Ghusl for Janabah (ritual impurity), or on Friday, or on Eid, whether it is his duty to perform Wudu before or after the Ghusl? He said: 'No, there is no Wudu upon him, neither before nor after the Ghusl, and the Ghusl itself is sufficient for him. Similarly, when a woman performs Ghusl from her menstruation or otherwise, there is no Wudu upon her, neither before nor after it, and the Ghusl is sufficient for her.'
📚 Tahdhib, vol. 1, p. 141

📚 Tahdhib, vol. 1, p. 140
Translation: Abdullah ibn Sulayman said: I heard Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) saying: 'Performing Wudu after Ghusl is an innovation.'
📚 Tahdhib, vol. 1, p. 140
Translation: Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: 'Performing Wudu after Ghusl is an innovation.'

Translation: Isa said: I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'When I am unable to visit you, how should I visit you?' The Imam said to me: 'O Isa, when you are not able to come, when it is Friday, perform Ghusl or Wudu, go up to the roof, pray two rak'ahs, and turn towards me, for whoever visits me during my life is as if they have visited me after my death, and whoever visits me after my death is as if they have visited me during my life.'
✅ Numerous other pieces of evidence are also found in Shia narrations confirming that the traditional ritual baths (ghusl) suffice for ablution (wudu).
✅ Of course, in a few other narrations in Shia hadith collections, instructions are given to perform Wudu before Ghusl other than for Janabah. However, due to their conflict with these narrations and their agreement with the general (Sunni) practice, we have refrained from quoting them. Some Shi'a, however, have based their practice on these few narrations.
