Answer

✅Answer:

📚 Faqih, Vol. 1, p. 159

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: If there is still a glimmer of life in a martyr, he is given a ritual bath, shrouded, and anointed, and if there is no life in him (he has passed away), he is shrouded in the same clothes (he is buried in the same clothes).

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 213

Abu Khalid al-Qammat narrated from (Imam Baqir, peace be upon him) that he said: Give a ritual bath to all the dead: the drowned person, the person torn apart by wild animals, and every other type of dead, except for the one who is killed between the two ranks (i.e., between the two ranks of Muslims and enemies in jihad). So if such a person still has a glimmer of life in him, he is given a ritual bath, otherwise, no.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 1, p. 458

Imam Kazim (peace be upon him) said: Indeed, Fatima (peace be upon her) was a Sadiqa (truthful one) and a martyr, and indeed the daughters of the prophets do not menstruate.

✅As was explained in Question 156, a martyr has a specific meaning, and that is a person who is killed in the battlefield of truth in jihad, and such a martyr has specific rulings, including being buried in his clothes and not being given a ritual bath.

But a martyr in the general sense includes various people, some of whom were mentioned in the same Question 156. However, a martyr in the general sense does not differ from other deceased people in terms of ritual bath and shrouding, and therefore, despite the fact that Fatima Zahra (peace be upon her) was certainly oppressed and a martyr, since her martyrdom was not between the two ranks of jihad, a ritual bath and shrouding were necessary for her, and according to numerous narrations, the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) gave her a ritual bath, shrouded her, and buried her at night.

✅As was explained in Question 118, the belief in the martyrdom of all the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) is part of knowing their right, and despite the fact that all the infallible Imams (peace be upon them) are martyrs, it is observed that, except for Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) who was martyred in the battlefield of jihad, the rest of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) were given a ritual bath and shrouded, and dozens of texts on this matter are available in the Shia hadith collections.

✅But people like Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and his companions who were martyred between the two ranks did not have a ritual bath or a shroud, and Imam Sajjad (peace be upon him) buried them in their same clothes without a ritual bath.

✅Here a question might arise as to why in some historical accounts and visitations, the lack of a shroud for Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) is mentioned despite the fact that he was certainly a martyr, and why it is narrated that Imam Sajjad wrapped him in a mat.

✅But the answer:

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 310

Translation: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said in a hadith: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) prayed over Hamza (may Allah have mercy on him) and shrouded him because Hamza's (peace be upon him) clothes had been taken off and he had been stripped naked.

✅Pay attention to this painful part of history and accept our apology for not translating it: 👇

5 He said: And Hussein (peace be upon him) said: Send me a garment that is not desirable so that I can put it under my clothes so that I am not stripped. So a loincloth was brought to him, and he said: No, that is the garment of one on whom humiliation has been decreed. So he took a worn-out garment, tore it, and put it under his clothes. When he was killed, they stripped it from him. Then Hussein (peace be upon him) requested a pair of Yemeni striped pants, so he tore them and wore them, and he only tore them so that they would not be taken from him. When he was killed, Abjar ibn Ka'b took them from him and left him (peace be upon him) naked.

📚 Bihar, Vol. 45, p. 54

✅As narrated in the books of martyrdom, including Bihar and Lahuf..., which we have quoted the text of Bihar in hadith 5 without translating it, the wicked helpers of Umar ibn Sa'd (may Allah's curse be upon them all) looted Imam Hussein's (peace be upon him) clothes and left the noble body of the grandson of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) naked on the ground, and therefore Imam Sajjad (peace be upon him) placed him in a mat according to one narration.

✅So Fatima Zahra (peace be upon her) was oppressed and a martyr, but she was given a ritual bath and shrouded by the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) because the burial of a martyr without a ritual bath and shrouding is specific to a martyr who was killed in the battlefield of jihad and under specific conditions.
