✅ Answer: Pay attention to the following Hadiths:

1 عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الرَّازِيِّ عَنْ رَجُلٍ سَمَّاهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: دَخَلَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَقَامَ عَلَى قَدَمَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَهْ هَذَا اسْمٌ لَا يَصْلُحُ إِلَّا لِأَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ سَمَّاهُ اللَّهُ بِهِ وَ لَمْ يُسَمَّ بِهِ أَحَدٌ غَيْرُهُ فَرَضِيَ بِهِ إِلَّا كَانَ مَنْكُوحاً وَ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنِ ابْتُلِيَ بِهِ.

A man entered upon Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) and said: 'Peace be upon you, O Amir al-Mu'minin (Commander of the Faithful)!'. The Imam stood up on his feet and said: 'Be silent! This is a name that is not worthy except for Amir al-Mu'minin [Ali bin Abi Talib] (peace be upon him); Allah named him with this name, and no one except him has been named with this name and been satisfied with it, except that he is a passive homosexual, and if he is not, he will become afflicted with it!'

2 عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبِي زَاهِرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: سَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ عَنِ الْقَائِمِ يُسَلَّمُ عَلَيْهِ بِإِمْرَةِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ قَالَ لَا ذَاكَ اسْمٌ سَمَّى اللَّهُ بِهِ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ لَمْ يُسَمَّ بِهِ أَحَدٌ قَبْلَهُ وَ لَا يُسَمَّى بِهِ بَعْدَهُ إِلَّا كَافِرٌ قُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ كَيْفَ يُسَلَّمُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ تَقُولُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا بَقِيَّةَ اللَّهِ.

Umar bin Abi Zahir said: A man asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) whether the Qa'im (peace be upon him) is greeted with the title 'Amir al-Mu'minin'? He replied: 'No! That is a name with which Allah Almighty named Amir al-Mu'minin [Ali] (peace be upon him); no one was named with it before him, and no one will be named with it after him except a disbeliever.' I said: 'May I be sacrificed for you! Then how should they greet him?' He said: 'Say, "Peace be upon you, O Baqiyatullah" (the Remnant of Allah).'

3 عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجْرَانَ عَمَّنْ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ الثُّمَالِيِّ قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ الْبَاقِرَ يَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ لِمَ سُمِّيَ عَلِيٌّ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَ هُوَ اسْمٌ مَا سُمِّيَ بِهِ أَحَدٌ قَبْلَهُ وَ لَا يَحِلُّ لِأَحَدٍ بَعْدَهُ قَالَ لِأَنَّهُ مِيرَةُ الْعِلْمِ يُمْتَارُ مِنْهُ وَ لَا يُمْتَارُ مِنْ أَحَدٍ غَيْرُهُ.

📚 Ilal al-Shara'i, p. 64

Abu Hamza al-Thumali said: I asked Imam Baqir (peace be upon him): 'O son of the Messenger of Allah! Why was Ali (peace be upon him) named "Amir al-Mu'minin", while this is a name with which no one was named before him, and it is not permissible for anyone after him?' He replied: 'Because he is the source and provider of knowledge; spiritual nourishment (of knowledge) is taken from him, and it is not taken from anyone other than him!'

4 عَنْ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: أَصْدَقُ الْأَسْمَاءِ مَا سُمِّيَ بِالْعُبُودِيَّةِ وَ أَفْضَلُهَا أَسْمَاءُ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ.

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: 'The truest of names are those that indicate servitude (like Abdullah), and the most excellent of them are the names of the Prophets.'

5 عَنْ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ علیه السلام یَقُولُ: یُنَادِی مُنَادٍ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ أَنَّ فُلَاناً هُوَ الْأَمِیرُ وَ یُنَادِی مُنَادٍ أَنَّ عَلِیّاً وَ شِیعَتَهُ هُمُ الْفَائِزُونَ...

Zurarah said: I heard Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) saying: 'A caller will call out from the sky that so-and-so (meaning the Imam of the Time, peace be upon him) is the Amir (commander), and another caller will call out: "Indeed, Ali (peace be upon him) and his Shia are the successful ones!"'

6 رَوَاهَا السَّیِّدُ وَ مُؤَلِّفُ الْمَزَارِ الْكَبِیرِ رَحِمَهُمَا اللَّهُ قَالا هِیَ مَرْوِیَّةٌ عَنِ الْأَئِمَّةِ علیهم السلام:...فَإِذَا دَخَلْتَ الْمَشْهَدَ فَقِفْ عَلَی الضَّرِیحِ الطَّاهِرِ وَ قُلِ السَّلَامُ عَلَیْكُمْ أَئِمَّةَ الْمُؤْمِنِینَ وَ سَادَةَ الْمُتَّقِینَ وَ كُبَرَاءَ الصِّدِّیقِینَ وَ أُمَرَاءَ الصَّالِحِینَ...

In a comprehensive Ziyarah (visitation supplication) narrated from the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), it is said: '...When you enter the shrine (of the Imam), stand facing the holy grave and say:

Peace be upon you, O Imams of the believers, masters of the pious, leaders of the truthful, and commanders (amirs) of the righteous!'

7 عَنْ رِبْعِیِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: قِیلَ لِأَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ علیه السلام جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ إِنَّا نُسَمِّی بِأَسْمَائِكُمْ وَ أَسْمَاءِ آبَائِكُمْ فَیَنْفَعُنَا ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ إِی وَ اللَّهِ وَ هَلِ الدِّینُ إِلَّا الْحُبُّ قَالَ اللَّهُ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِی یُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ وَ یَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ.

📚 Tafsir al-Ayyashi, Vol. 1, pp. 167-168

It was said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'May I be sacrificed for you! We name [our children] with your names and the names of your fathers. Does it benefit us?' The Imam replied: 'Yes, by Allah! Is religion anything other than love?! Allah Almighty says: ...'

إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِی یُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ وَ یَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ.

✅ In light of the above Hadiths and others, that which is exclusively specific to Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (peace be upon him) and with which naming anyone else is impermissible is the name and title 'Amir al-Mu'minin'.

However, the name 'Amir' in the Hadiths, Ziyarahs, and elsewhere has been applied to all members of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them all) and is not exclusive to a specific individual; furthermore, it has also been applied to various other individuals, such as the commander of an army.

Therefore, in addition to the fact that naming [children] with the name 'Amir' is without objection, since it is among the blessed names and titles of all members of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them all), naming children with it is desirable, beneficial, and recommended.
