Answer

✅ Answer: Please pay attention to the following narrations:

📚 Kafi Vol. 6, p. 445

Translation: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: Wear white clothes, for they are better, cleaner, and purer, and shroud your deceased in them (meaning white cloth) as well.

📚 Kafi Vol. 3, p. 148

Translation: Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) said: None of your clothes are better than white, so wear them and shroud your deceased in them as well.

📚 Qurbal-Isnad p. 71

Translation: Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: Indeed, most of Ali's (peace be upon him) clothing was nothing but white, and he would say: Shrouding the dead is also in (white color).

📚 Kafi Vol. 6, p. 467

Translation: Ziyad said: I came to Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) while wearing a closed-toed shoe. The Imam said: O Ziyad! What is this shoe I see on you? I said: This is a shoe I have taken; the Imam said: Do you not know that white closed-toed shoes are the clothes of the tyrants? And they were the first ones to make them? And the red (shoe) is from the Kisras (Persian kings) and they were the first ones to take it, and the black (closed-toed shoe) is from the clothes of the Bani Hashim and it is a tradition.

✅ The color of clothing that is most encouraged in Shia narrations is white. However, according to the third narration, this is an exception in the case of closed-toed shoes (with or without a shaft), and it should be noted that 'na'layn' is different from 'khuff' and refers to an open-toed shoe that only has a strap and a thong, and the prohibition of the white color is for closed-toed shoes, not for 'na'layn', meaning open-toed shoes.

✅ Regarding open-toed shoes, please pay attention to the following two narrations:

📚 Kafi Vol. 6, p. 465

Translation: Sudayr said: I entered upon Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) while I was wearing a white open-toed shoe. The Imam said to me: O Sudayr, what is this open-toed shoe? Did you choose it based on knowledge? I said: No, by Allah, may I be your ransom, the Imam said: Whoever enters the market with the intention of buying a white open-toed shoe, before it wears out, he will acquire wealth from where he does not expect.

📚 Kafi Vol. 6, p. 466

Translation: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Whoever wears yellow open-toed shoes is always in joy and happiness until he wears them out.

✅ It is clear that regarding 'na'l', meaning open-toed shoes, the yellow and white colors are recommended, and in the hadith from 📚 Kafi Vol. 6, p. 465 and others, the black 'na'l' is condemned.

✅ In general, two types of shoes and footwear were common during the time of the Imams (peace be upon them), one was closed-toed and was called 'khuff', which some also had a shaft like a boot, and the other was 'na'layn', which had a sole and only one or two straps on top, in a way that it was even possible to wipe over them without taking them off. However, in Shia jurisprudence, these two types of footwear have different rulings in various places, including their color. For 'na'layn', the white and yellow colors are recommended, and the black color is condemned, and for 'khuff', meaning closed-toed shoes, the white color is prohibited, and the black color is recommended.
