Question 2090: Is there a Hadith (saying/tradition) regarding protecting the body from the onset of cold, or is it a medical recommendation?

Answer
✅ Answer: Please pay attention to the following Hadiths:
📚 Nahj al-Balagha, p. 491
Amir al-Mu'minin (Commander of the Faithful - Imam Ali), peace be upon him, said: Protect and guard yourselves from the beginning and onset of the cold, and embrace its end and go to meet it, because the cold does to the body what it does to the trees: its beginning burns, and its end brings out the leaves!
📚 Da'awat al-Rawandi, p. 75
Zarr ibn Hubaish said: Amir al-Mu'minin, peace be upon him, said: There are four words in medicine that if Hippocrates or Galen wanted to say them, they would first lay a hundred pages of groundwork, and then adorn it with these words, and that is:
Protect and guard yourselves from the beginning and onset of the cold, and embrace its end and go to meet it, because the cold does to the body what it does to the trees: its beginning burns, and its end brings out the leaves!
✅ Note: According to the Bihar al-Anwar version, the beginning of this Hadith might be the statement of Zarr ibn Hubaish.
✅ Based on the luminous Hadiths above, the onset of cold causes the burning and dropping of leaves from trees, and its end causes the trees to sprout leaves. The cold does the same thing to bodies, and thus it is recommended that we protect and guard ourselves from the onset of the cold, but embrace the end of the cold and expose ourselves to it.
✅ In relation to guarding against the cold, please also pay attention to the following important Hadiths:
