✅ Answer: Pay attention to the following narrations:

1⃣عَنِ اللَّیْثِیِّ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ قال: امْتَحِنُوا شِیعَتَنَا عِنْدَ ثَلَاثٍ عِنْدَ مَوَاقِیتِ الصَّلَاةِ کَیْفَ مُحَافَظَتُهُمْ عَلَیْهَا وَ عِنْدَ أَسْرَارِهِمْ کَیْفَ حِفْظُهُمْ لَهَا عِنْدَ عَدُوِّنَا وَ إِلَی أَمْوَالِهِمْ کَیْفَ مُوَاسَاتُهُمْ لِإِخْوَانِهِمْ فِیهَا.

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Test our Shia with three things: their adherence to the times of prayer and how they safeguard them, their secrecy and how they protect it from our enemies, and their wealth and how they share it with their brothers!

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: There are two qualities: whoever has them, stay close, and if not, distance yourself, then distance yourself further! It was asked: What are these two qualities? He said: Performing prayer at its proper time and safeguarding it, and sharing with others!

2⃣عَنْ یُونُسَ بْنِ ظَبْیَانَ وَ الْمُفَضَّلِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْداللَّهِ قَالَ: خَصْلَتَانِ مَنْ کَانَتَا فِیهِ وَ إِلَّا فَاعْزُبْ ثُمَّ اعْزُبْ قِیلَ وَ مَا هُمَا قَالَ الصَّلَاةُ فِی مَوَاقِیتِهَا وَ المحافظة عَلَیْهَا وَ الْمُوَاسَاةُ.

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Test our Shia at the times of prayer and see how they safeguard their prayers!

3⃣عَنْ مَسْعَدَةَ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ قال: قَالَ أَبُوعَبْداللَّه امْتَحِنُوا شِیعَتَنَا عِنْدَ مَوَاقِیتِ الصَّلَاةِ کَیْفَ مُحَافَظَتُهُمْ عَلَیْهَا.

📚 Al-Mahasin, p. 254

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: One who claims to uphold the truth (and claims to be Shia) is known by three qualities: look at their companions and associates to see who they are, look at their prayer to see its quality and when they perform it, and if they are wealthy, look at how they spend their wealth!

4⃣عَنْ مُيَسِّرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْقَصِيرِ الْجَوْهَرِيِّ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْداللَّهِ قال: يُعْرَفُ مَنْ يَصِفُ الْحَقَّ بِثَلَاثِ خِصَالٍ يُنْظَرُ إِلَى أَصْحَابِهِ مَنْ هُمْ وَ إِلَى صَلَاتِهِ كَيْفَ هِيَ و فِي أَيِّ وَقْتٍ يُصَلِّيهَا فَإِنْ كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ نُظِرَ أَيْنَ يَضَعُ مَالَهُ

Harun ibn Kharja says: I mentioned one of the companions to Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, and praised him highly! The Imam said to me: How is his prayer??!

5⃣عن هَارُونَ بْنِ خَارِجَةَ قَالَ: ذَکَرْتُ لِأَبِی عَبْداللَّه رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا فَأَحْسَنْتُ عَلَیْهِ الثَّنَاءَ فَقَالَ لِی کَیْفَ صَلَاتُهُ.

📚 Amali al-Tusi, Vol. 1, p. 29

Amir al-Mu’minin, peace be upon him, wrote in a letter to Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr and the people of Egypt: Pay close attention and observe how your prayer is!... And know that everything about you follows your prayer! Thus, one who neglects prayer will neglect other things even more!

6⃣عَنْ أَمِیرِالْمُؤْمِنِین عَلِیُّ بْنُ أَبِی طَالِبٍ في کتاب..... وَ انْظُرْ إِلَی صَلَاتِکَ کَیْفَ هِیَ.....و اعْلَمْ أَنَّ کُلَّ شَیْءٍ مِنْ عَمَلِکَ تَبَعٌ لِصَلَاتِکَ فَمَنْ ضَیَّعَ الصَّلَاةَ فَإِنَّهُ لِغَیْرِهَا أَضْیَعُ.

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, one of the most important criteria for recognizing someone who claims to be Shia is the quality of their prayer and the time at which they perform it. Since everything about a person follows their prayer, if someone neglects the timing and boundaries of prayer, they will neglect other matters even more.

Therefore, someone who claims to be Shia and considers themselves knowledgeable but neglects their prayers and does not act upon hadiths is not worthy of companionship and cannot be considered trustworthy.

✅ It is possible that the individuals mentioned, who do not prioritize action and perform prayers outside their proper times, may be among the extremists inclined toward permissivism. Thus, one should reconsider associating or maintaining a relationship with them.

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: If a scholar does not act upon their knowledge, their admonition slips from hearts, just as rain slips off a stone!

7⃣عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ الْجَعْفَرِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْداللَّهِ قَالَ: إِنَّ الْعَالِمَ إِذَا لَمْ یَعْمَلْ بِعِلْمِهِ زَلَّتْ مَوْعِظَتُهُ عَنِ الْقُلُوبِ کَمَا یَزِلُّ الْمَطَرُ عَنِ الصَّفَا.
