✅ Answer: Pay attention to the following narrations:

1⃣عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: تَجِبُ الْفِطْرَةُ عَلَی کُلِّ مَنْ

تَجِبُ عَلَیْهِ الزَّکَاةُ.

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Fitra is obligatory upon everyone for whom zakat is obligatory!

2⃣عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِیلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِی عُمَیْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِنَا مُخْتَلِطَةٌ أَ عَلَیْهَا زَکَاةٌ فَقَالَ إِنْ کَانَ عُمِلَ بِهِ فَعَلَیْهَا زَکَاةٌ وَ إِنْ لَمْ یُعْمَلْ بِهِ فَلَا.

Abd al-Rahman ibn Hajjaj says: I said to Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him: There is a woman among our people whose intellect and reasoning have been corrupted. Is zakat obligatory upon her? The Imam said: If her wealth is being used, zakat is due on it, but if it is not being used, then no!

3⃣ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَمَّنْ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْداللَّهِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لَهُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ هَلْ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْبَوَادِي الْفِطْرَةُ قَالَ فَقَالَ الْفِطْرَةُ عَلَى كُلِّ مَنِ اقْتَاتَ قُوتاً فَعَلَيْهِ أَنْ يُؤَدِّيَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْقُوت

📚 Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 173

Someone says: I said to Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him: May I be your ransom! Is Zakat al-Fitra also obligatory on Bedouins? The Imam said: Whoever eats a certain food and makes it their primary sustenance, it is upon them to pay Zakat al-Fitra from that same food and sustenance!

4⃣عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْداللَّهِ عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَكُونُ عِنْدَهُ الضَّيْفُ مِنْ إِخْوَانِهِ فَيَحْضُرُ يَوْمُ الْفِطْرِ يُؤَدِّي عَنْهُ الْفِطْرَةَ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ الْفِطْرَةُ وَاجِبَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مَنْ يَعُولُ مِنْ ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنْثَى صَغِيرٍ أَوْ كَبِيرٍ حُرٍّ أَوْ مَمْلُوكٍ.

Umar ibn Yazid says: I asked Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, about a man who has a guest from among his brothers, and the day of Fitr arrives. Should he pay Zakat al-Fitra on his behalf? The Imam said: Yes! Zakat al-Fitra is obligatory for everyone—man or woman, young or old, free or slave—whose sustenance and food you provide!

5⃣عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْداللَّهِ قَالَ: كُلُّ مَنْ ضَمَمْتَ إِلَى عِيَالِكَ مِنْ حُرٍّ أَوْ مَمْلُوكٍ فَعَلَيْكَ أَنْ تُؤَدِّيَ الْفِطْرَةَ عَنْهُ الْحَدِيثَ.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 170

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: For everyone you include among your dependents, whether free or slave, you must pay Zakat al-Fitra on their behalf!

6⃣ عَنْ امیرالمؤمنین في حديث قال... أَ مَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ الْقَلَمَ یُرْفَعُ عَنْ ثَلَاثَةٍ عَنِ الصَّبِیِّ حَتَّی یَحْتَلِمَ وَ عَنِ الْمَجْنُونِ حَتَّی یُفِیقَ وَ عَنِ النَّائِمِ حَتَّی یَسْتَیْقِظَ.

Amir al-Mu’minin, peace be upon him, said in a narration: Do you not know that the pen is lifted from three: a child until they reach puberty, a mad person until their sanity returns, and a sleeping person until they awaken!

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, a woman whose intellect has been corrupted due to Alzheimer’s is not liable for zakat on her wealth, unless her wealth is in someone’s hands and being used.

Therefore, a woman whose intellect has been severely impaired due to Alzheimer’s and whose expenses are covered from her own wealth is not obligated to pay Zakat al-Fitra.

✅ However, if such a woman is among someone’s dependents and her sustenance is provided by another person, her Zakat al-Fitra must be paid by the person providing her sustenance.
