Question 1991: A person who has gotten a tattoo may experience fading or lightening of the tattoo if they wash their face for a few days. During this period, can they perform *Tayammum* (dry ablution) or perform *Jabirah* (bandage) *Wudu* and *Ghusl*?
✅ Answer: Refer to the following narrations:
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 2, p. 373
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'A man wrote to Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) asking for advice in two words. The Imam wrote back: Whoever seeks to achieve something through disobedience to Allah will find that it results in the loss of what they hoped for and the arrival of what they feared!'
📚 Al-Mahasin, Vol. 1, p. 245
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'People are commanded and prohibited, and whoever has a valid excuse, Allah accepts their excuse!'
📚 Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 5, p. 58
One day, Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said to a believer in predestination (*Jabr*): 'Is there anyone who accepts valid excuses more than Allah, the Almighty?' The man replied: 'No!'
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 8, p. 16
Imam Sajjad (peace be upon him) said in a hadith: 'Know that on the Day of Judgment, Allah will neither confirm a liar nor reject the truth of a truthful person. He will not dismiss the excuse of one who is genuinely excused, nor will He accept the excuse of one who is not excused!'
✅ Based on the above narrations and others, no one is more accepting of valid excuses than Allah, but the condition for acceptance is that the excuse must be valid and justified. The excuse of someone who is not truly excused will not be accepted.
Therefore, a woman who has gotten a tattoo against the guidance of the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them) and now fears that washing for *Wudu* or *Ghusl* may cause her tattoo to fade or disappear does not have a valid excuse. She cannot perform *Tayammum* or *Jabirah* *Wudu* and *Ghusl*. If she performs *Jabirah* *Ghusl* or *Tayammum* under these conditions, her prayers and possibly her fasts will be invalid, and she will be required to redo her prayers and make up for the missed fasts with expiation.
✅ However, if performing *Wudu* or *Ghusl* with water would cause infection, illness, or severe difficulty, this case is not included in the above narrations. If using water poses a real and significant health risk, it is considered a valid excuse, even though getting the tattoo itself was an act of disobedience.
