✅ Answer: Consider the following narrations:

1⃣عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اَلْحَمِيدِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُذَافِرٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ عَنِ اَلتَّسْبِيحِ فِي اَلْمَخْرَجِ وَ قِرَاءَةِ اَلْقُرْآنِ فَقَالَ لَمْ يُرَخَّصْ فِي اَلْكَنِيفِ فِي أَكْثَرَ مِنْ آيَةِ اَلْكُرْسِيِّ وَ يَحْمَدُ اَللَّهَ أَوْ آيَةٍ.

Omar ibn Yazid said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about saying tasbih (praising Allah) and reciting the Quran in the restroom. The Imam replied: In the restroom, reciting more than Ayat al-Kursi or praising Allah and reciting one verse is not permitted.

✅ The above narration is also recorded in the book *Man La Yahduruhu al-Faqih* as follows:

2⃣وَ سَأَلَ عُمَرُ بْنُ یَزِیدَ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ علیه السلام عَنِ التَّسْبِیحِ فِی الْمَخْرَجِ وَ قِرَاءَةِ الْقُرْآنِ فَقَالَ لَمْ یُرَخَّصْ فِی الْکَنِیفِ أَکْثَرَ مِنْ آیَةِ الْکُرْسِیِّ وَ یَحْمَدَ اللَّهَ أَوْ آیَةِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعالَمِینَ.

📚 Al-Faqih, Vol. 1, p. 28

Omar ibn Yazid asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about saying tasbih and reciting the Quran in the restroom. The Imam said: In the restroom, reciting more than Ayat al-Kursi, praising Allah, or reciting the verse 'Al-Hamdulillahi Rabbil-Alamin' is not permitted.

3⃣عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ اِبْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اَللَّهِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ اَلْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ أَ تَقْرَأُ اَلنُّفَسَاءُ وَ اَلْحَائِضُ وَ اَلْجُنُبُ وَ اَلرَّجُلُ اَلْمُتَغَوِّطُ اَلْقُرْآنَ فَقَالَ يَقْرَءُونَ مَا شَاءُوا.

📚 Al-Tahdhib, Vol. 1, p. 128

Halabi said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) whether a woman in postpartum bleeding, a menstruating woman, a person in a state of janabah, or someone defecating can recite the Quran. The Imam replied: They can recite whatever they want!

4⃣قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ : سَبْعَةٌ لَا يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ الرَّاكِعُ وَ السَّاجِدُ وَ فِي الْكَنِيفِ وَ فِي الْحَمَّامِ وَ الْجُنُبُ وَ النُّفَسَاءُ وَ الْحَائِضُ

📚 Al-Hidayah, p. 40

Amir al-Mu’minin (peace be upon him) said: Seven types of people do not recite the Quran: a person in ruku (bowing), a person in sujood (prostration), a person in the restroom, a person in the bath, a person in a state of janabah, a menstruating woman, and a woman in postpartum bleeding.

✅ Although some narrations discourage reciting the Quran in the restroom (except for Ayat al-Kursi and the verse 'Al-Hamdulillahi Rabbil-Alamin' as mentioned in narrations 1⃣ and 2⃣), narration 3⃣ permits it. Therefore, one can choose to follow the restriction in narrations 1⃣ and 2⃣ or the permission in narration 3⃣ to recite any Quranic verse in such a place.
