1⃣عَنْ مُعَاوِیَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبداللَّه قَالَ: الْمُعْتَمِرُ عُمْرَةً مُفْرَدَةً إِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْ طَوَافِ الْفَرِیضَةِ وَ صَلَاةِ الرَّکْعَتَیْنِ خَلْفَ الْمَقَامِ وَ السَّعْیِ بَیْنَ الصَّفَا وَ الْمَرْوَةِ حَلَقَ أَوْ قَصَّرَ وَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْعُمْرَةِ الْمَبْتُولَةِ فِیهَا الْحَلْقُ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَ قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فِی الْعُمْرَةِ الْمَبْتُولَةِ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُحَلِّقِینَ قِیلَ یَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَ لِلْمُقَصِّرِینَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُحَلِّقِینَ قِیلَ یَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَ لِلْمُقَصِّرِینَ فَقَالَ وَ لِلْمُقَصِّرِینَ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: The person performing Umrah Mufradah, after completing the obligatory Tawaf, two units of prayer behind Maqam Ibrahim, and the Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, should shave or trim the hair!

He was asked about Umrah Mufradah and if it includes head shaving, to which he replied: Yes! And he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) prayed for forgiveness for those who shave their heads. It was asked, 'O Messenger of Allah! And for those who trim their hair?' He said again, 'O Allah, forgive those who shave their heads!' It was repeated, 'And for those who trim?' He said, 'And for those who trim!'

2⃣عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ الْفُضَیْلِ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ دَخَلْنَا بِعُمْرَةٍ نُقَصِّرُ أَوْ نَحْلِقُ فَقَالَ احْلِقْ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ تَرَحَّمَ عَلَی الْمُحَلِّقِینَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَ عَلَی الْمُقَصِّرِینَ مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً.

Salim narrates: I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): We have entered Mecca with Umrah (Mufradah); should we trim or shave? He replied: Shave your head! Because the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) prayed for mercy three times for those who shave, and only once for those who trim!

3⃣عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ یَزِیدَ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْداللَّه قَالَ: ثُمَّ ائْتِ مَنْزِلَکَ فَقَصِّرْ مِنْ شَعْرِکَ وَ حَلَّ لَکَ کُلُّ شَیْءٍ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: (In Umrah Tamattu) then go to your residence and perform the hair trimming, at which point all things become permissible for you!

4⃣عَنْ مُعَاوِیَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْداللَّه قَالَ: إِذَا فَرَغْتَ مِنْ سَعْیِکَ وَ أَنْتَ مُتَمَتِّعٌ فَقَصِّرْ مِنْ شَعْرِکَ مِنْ جَوَانِبِهِ وَ لِحْیَتِکَ وَ خُذْ مِنْ شَارِبِکَ وَ قَلِّمْ مِنْ أَظْفَارِکَ وَ أَبْقِ مِنْهَا لِحَجِّکَ فَإِذَا فَعَلْتَ ذَلِکَ فَقَدْ أَحْلَلْتَ مِنْ کُلِّ شَیْءٍ یُحِلُّ مِنْهُ الْمُحْرِمُ وَ أَحْرَمْتَ مِنْهُ فَطُفْ بِالْبَیْتِ تَطَوُّعاً مَا شِئْتَ.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 438

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: When performing Tamattu, after completing the Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, trim the hair on your head and beard, trim your mustache, and cut your nails, leaving some for your Hajj. Once you have done this, you are released from Ihram as the Muhrim would be, and then you may perform any voluntary Tawaf around the Kaaba as you wish!

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, in Umrah Mufradah, after the Sa’i between Safa and Marwah and before Tawaf al-Nisa, one is required to trim or shave the hair, with shaving being superior to trimming.

In Umrah Tamattu, after the Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, only trimming is required, and shaving the head is not permitted.

✅ The place for trimming or shaving is designated after the Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, but it is not mandatory to perform it on Mount Marwah. As per narration 3⃣, it can even be done at one’s residence within the city of Mecca.

✅ Therefore, if someone performing Umrah Mufradah wishes to shave their head (which is superior to trimming) and shaving facilities are not available near Mount Marwah at the end of Sa’i, they may go outside to a suitable location within Mecca to shave their head without any issue.

✅ It is understood that if someone trims at the end of Sa’i in Umrah Mufradah near Mount Marwah, they exit Ihram with the act of trimming. If they later go to shave their head, they do not receive the merit of exiting Ihram through head shaving.
