Abdullah ibn Fadhl says: 'I complained to Imam Sadiq about the rumbling in the stomach and the indigestibility of food; the Imam said: 'Why don't you make the nabidh that we drink, which makes food easier to digest and removes the rumbling and gas from the stomach?' I said: 'May I be sacrificed for you! Please describe it for me!' The Imam said: 'Take one sa' of raisins, clean them from the seeds and anything in them, wash them well with water, then place enough water to cover them, and leave them for three nights in winter or one night in summer. After this period, strain the liquid, take the strained part, and place it in a container. Measure it with a stick, then gently cook it until two-thirds of it evaporates and one-third remains. Then, place half a ratl of honey and measure it, and cook it until the amount increases due to the honey. Then take ginger, galangal, cinnamon, saffron, cloves, and mastic, grind them, place them in a thin cloth, and add them to the mixture, boiling it once. After it cools, strain it, and consume it at breakfast and dinner.'

'I did this, and whatever problem I had went away. This is the pure wine, which if kept, will not spoil. Insha'Allah.'

2⃣ Kalbi Nasabeh says: 'I asked Imam Sadiq about nabidh; the Imam said: 'It is halal!' I said: 'We make nabidh, and add dirt (sediment) and other things to it!' The Imam said: 'Ah! Ah! That is spoiled wine!'

'I said: 'May I be sacrificed for you! So, which nabidh do you mean?' The Imam said: 'Indeed, the people of Madinah complained to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about the changing water and the corruption of their temperaments, and he instructed them to make nabidh. So, one of them would tell his servant to make nabidh for him, and he would go for a handful of dates, put them in a skin bag, and drink from it for his purification!'

'I asked: 'How many dates would be placed in the skin bag?' The Imam said: 'As much as one can carry in one palm!' I said: 'A handful or two handfuls?' He said: 'Sometimes one handful, sometimes two handfuls!'

'I said: 'How much water could the bag hold?' He said: 'Between forty to eighty or more!' I said: 'By the ratl?' He said: 'Ratl, by the measure of Iraq!'

3⃣ Hannan ibn Sidir says: 'I heard a man saying to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'What do you say about nabidh? For Abu Maryam drinks it and thinks that you have instructed him to drink it!' The Imam said: 'Abu Maryam has spoken correctly; he asked me about nabidh, and I informed him that it is halal! He did not ask about intoxicating drinks.'

'Then the Imam said: 'I do not practice taqiyya about intoxicating drinks, neither from the ruler nor anyone else! The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Every intoxicant is haram, and anything that intoxicates in large amounts is also haram in small amounts.''

'The man said to the Imam: 'May I be sacrificed for you! What is this nabidh that you have allowed Abu Maryam to drink?' The Imam said: 'My father used to order his servant to bring a cup and place dried grapes in it, wash them well, and then put them in a container. He would pour three or four times the amount of water over them and leave it overnight to drink during the day, and in the morning, he would leave it and drink it at night. He would instruct the servant to wash the container every three days so that it does not ferment. So if you want nabidh, this is nabidh!'
