لَوْ نَذَرَ إِنْسَانٌ صِیَامَ یَوْمٍ مُعَیَّنٍ وَ سَافَرَ فِیهِ، مَا عَلَیْهِ؟؟

✅ Answer: Pay attention to the following narrations:

1⃣عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ مَهْزِیَارَ قَالَ: کَتَبَ بُنْدَارُ مَوْلَی إِدْرِیسَ یَا سَیِّدِی نَذَرْتُ أَنْ أَصُومَ کُلَّ یَوْمِ سَبْتٍ فَإِنْ أَنَا لَمْ أَصُمْهُ مَا یَلْزَمُنِی مِنَ الْکَفَّارَةِ فَکَتَبَ وَ قَرَأْتُهُ لَا تَتْرُکْهُ إِلَّا مِنْ عِلَّةٍ وَ لَیْسَ عَلَیْکَ صَوْمُهُ فِی سَفَرٍ وَ لَا مَرَضٍ إِلَّا أَنْ تَکُونَ نَوَیْتَ ذَلِکَ وَ إِنْ کُنْتَ أَفْطَرْتَ مِنْهُ مِنْ غَیْرِ عِلَّةٍ فَتَصَدَّقْ بِقَدْرِ کُلِّ یَوْمٍ عَلَی سَبْعَةِ مَسَاکِینَ نَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ التَّوْفِیقَ لِمَا یُحِبُّ وَ یَرْضَی.

Ali bin Mahziar said: Bandar wrote to the Imam (peace be upon him): O my master! I have vowed to fast every Saturday. If I do not fast, what is the atonement for me? The Imam wrote back, and I read: You do not leave it except for a valid reason, and during travel or illness, fasting is not obligatory upon you unless you intended it. If you break it without a valid reason, you must give charity to seven needy people for each day. We ask Allah for success in what He loves and is pleased with.

2⃣عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ مَهْزِيَارَ فِي حَدِيثٍ قَالَ: كَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ يَعْنِي إِلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ يَا سَيِّدِي رَجُلٌ نَذَرَ أَنْ يَصُومَ يَوْماً مِنَ الْجُمُعَةِ دَائِماً مَا بَقِيَ فَوَافَقَ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمُ يَوْمَ عِيدِ فِطْرٍ أَوْ أَضْحًى أَوْ أَيَّامَ التَّشْرِيقِ أَوْ سَفَرَ أَوْ مَرِضَ هَلْ عَلَيْهِ صَوْمُ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ أَوْ قَضَاؤُهُ وَ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ يَا سَيِّدِي فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ قَدْ وَضَعَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ الصِّيَامَ فِي هَذِهِ الْأَيَّامِ كُلِّهَا وَ يَصُومُ يَوْماً بَدَلَ يَوْمٍ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 7, p. 456

Ali bin Mahziar wrote to Imam Al-Abul Hasan (peace be upon him): O my master! A person vows to fast a specific day each week for as long as they live. If that day coincides with Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, the days of Tashreeq, travel, or illness, should they still fast on that day, or should they make it up later? What should they do, O my master?

The Imam replied: Allah has relieved him from fasting on all these days, and he should make up one day instead. InshaAllah.

3⃣عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِیمَ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِی عُمَیْرٍ عَنْ کَرَّامٍ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِنِّی جَعَلْتُ عَلَی نَفْسِی أَنْ أَصُومَ حَتَّی یَقُومَ الْقَائِمُ فَقَالَ صُمْ وَ لَا تَصُمْ فِی السَّفَرِ الْحَدِیثَ.

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 4, p. 141

Karram said: I told Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): I have taken it upon myself (vowed) to fast until the Qa'im (peace be upon him) rises! The Imam said: Fast, but do not fast while traveling.

✅ According to the above narrations and others, if someone has vowed to fast on a specific day and happens to be traveling on that day, they do not fast while traveling. Instead, they make up one day when they return from travel.

✅ However, according to narration 1⃣, if they intended or mentioned during the vow that they would fast even while traveling, then they must fast on the specified day even while traveling.

✅ تُظْهَرُ مِنْ هَذِهِ الرّوایاتِ و مَا أَشْبَهَهَا، لَوْ نَذَرَ إِنْسَانٌ أَنْ یَصُومَ یَوْمَاً مُعَیَّنَاً، یُسْقَطُ صِیَامَ ذَلِکَ الیَومِ فِی السَّفَرِ وَ عَلَیْهِ أَنْ یَصُومَ بَدَلَهَا فِی الْحَضَر، إِلَّا أَنْ نَوَی عِنْدَ النَّذْرِ صِیَامَهُ فِی السَّفَرِ وَ الْحَضَر، فَیَصُومُهُ إذَاً فِی الْحَضَرِ وَ السَّفَرِ

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَجِّلْ لِوَلِیِّکَ الْفَرَجَ وَ الْعَافِیَةَ وَ النَّصْر
