Question 1832: Is it permissible to write the Quran and Hadiths with gold ink?
✅ Answer: Please refer to the following narrations:

Aban bin Taghlib says: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'The sigh of one who is saddened due to the injustice done to us is a form of glorification, and their attention to our affairs is an act of worship, while keeping our secrets is jihad in the way of Allah!'
Then Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'It is obligatory to write this hadith with gold ink!'

Jafar narrates from his companions in a raised narration, saying: 'I was with Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) when Amir al-Mu'minin Ali bin Abi Talib (peace be upon him) was mentioned. Then Ibn Mardad asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'What will be the reward for one who visits your grandfather, Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him)?' Imam replied: 'O son of Mardad! Anyone who visits my grandfather, Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him), while being aware of his rights, Allah will record for him one accepted Hajj and one accepted Umrah for each step he takes! O son of Mardad! By Allah, the Lord will not let the step that becomes dusty in the way of visiting Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) be burned by the fire, whether the person is walking or riding!'
O son of Mardad! Write this hadith with gold ink!

Muhammad bin Waraq says: I presented a book containing the Quran to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him), where the end of each verse (or every ten verses) was embellished with gold, and at the end of it, a surah was written in gold. Imam did not find anything wrong with it except for the writing of the Quran in gold, as he said: 'I do not like the Quran to be written except with black ink, as it was written in the beginning!'
✅ Based on the above narrations and others, embellishing the ends of verses or parts of the Quran with gold ink is not prohibited, but writing the Quran with gold ink has been criticized by our Master Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him).
Regarding writing Hadiths with gold ink, there is no specific or general prohibition, and two specific narrations recommend writing with gold ink!
