Question 1792: I set aside my Zakat al-Fitr and placed it in my car to give it to the deserving person, but it was stolen from the car. What is my responsibility now?
✅ Answer: Please refer to the following narration:
📚 Al-Tahdhib, vol. 4, p. 77
Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said about a man who sets aside his Zakat al-Fitr from his wealth and separates it to give it to its rightful owners: If he removes it from his responsibility, then this debt is lifted from him. Otherwise, he remains responsible for it until he delivers it to its rightful recipients!
✅ According to the above narration, if a person sets aside their Zakat al-Fitr and hands it over to a trustworthy individual to distribute or give it to its rightful recipient, their responsibility is lifted. Otherwise, they remain liable for it.
Regarding the above question, since the person has only separated it but has not removed it from their responsibility, they are still liable for it. Now that it has been stolen or lost in any way, they must replace it and pay it from their own wealth to the deserving person of Zakat al-Fitr.
