1⃣قَالَ أَمِیرُ الْمُؤْمِنِینَ أَحْلِفُوا الظَّالِمَ إِذَا أَرَدْتُمْ یَمِینَهُ بِأَنَّهُ بَرِیءٌ مِنْ حَوْلِ اللَّهِ وَ قُوَّتِهِ فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا حَلَفَ بِهَا کَاذِباً عُوجِلَ وَ إِذَا حَلَفَ بِاللَّهِ الَّذِی لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ لَمْ یُعَاجَلْ لِأَنَّهُ قَدْ وَحَّدَ اللَّهَ سُبْحَانَهُ.

📚 Nahj al-Balagha, p. 512

Imam Ali, peace be upon him, said: When you want to make an oppressor swear an oath, make him swear that he renounces the power and might of Allah, because if he swears falsely in this way, (his punishment) will be hastened and he will not be given respite. But if he swears by Allah, who is the only God, he will not be hastened in punishment because he reminds you of the Oneness of the Almighty!

2⃣ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ الْجَمَّالِ أَنَّ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ الْمَنْصُورَ قَالَ لِأَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رُفِعَ إِلَیَّ أَنَّ مَوْلَاکَ الْمُعَلَّی بْنَ خُنَیْسٍ یَدْعُو إِلَیْکَ وَ یَجْمَعُ لَکَ الْأَمْوَالَ فَقَالَ وَ اللَّهِ مَا کَانَ إِلَی أَنْ قَالَ الْمَنْصُورُ فَأَنَا أَجْمَعُ بَیْنَکَ وَ بَیْنَ مَنْ سَعَی بِکَ فَجَاءَ الرَّجُلُ الَّذِی سَعَی بِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ یَا هَذَا أَ تَحْلِفُ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ وَ اللَّهِ الَّذِی لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَالِمِ الْغَیْبِ وَ الشَّهَادَةِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِیمِ لَقَدْ فَعَلْتَ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَیْلَکَ تُمَجِّدُ اللَّهَ فَیَسْتَحْیِی مِنْ تَعْذِیبِکَ وَ لَکِنْ قُلْ بَرِئْتُ مِنْ حَوْلِ اللَّهِ وَ قُوَّتِهِ وَ أُلْجَأتُ إِلَی حَوْلِی وَ قُوَّتِی فَحَلَفَ بِهَا الرَّجُلُ فَلَمْ یَسْتَتِمَّهَا حَتَّی وَقَعَ مَیِّتاً فَقَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الْمَنْصُورُ لَا أُصَدِّقُ عَلَیْکَ بَعْدَ هَذَا أَبَداً وَ أَحْسَنَ جَائِزَتَهُ وَ رَدَّهُ.

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 6, p. 445

Safwan al-Jammal said: Mansur Dawaniki, may Allah curse him, said to Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him: I have been informed that your freed slave, Ma’li ibn Khunays, is calling people to you and collecting wealth for you!

The Imam said: I swear by Allah, this is not true... until Mansur Dawaniki said: I will gather you and the one who has slandered you.

پس آن مردی که برای امام سعایت نموده بود آمد! امام به او فرمودند : فلانی! آیا قسم می خوری؟! او گفت : بله! وَ اللَّهِ الَّذِی لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ عَالِمِ الْغَیْبِ وَ الشَّهَادَةِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِیمِ لَقَدْ فَعَلْتَ

Meaning: I swear by Allah, who is the only God, Knower of the unseen and the visible, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate, you have done this!

Then the Imam said to him: Woe to you! You glorify Allah in your oath, and because of this, Allah is shy to punish you! But say this instead:

بَرِئْتُ مِنْ حَوْلِ اللَّهِ وَ قُوَّتِهِ وَ أُلْجَأتُ إِلَی حَوْلِی وَ قُوَّتِی

Meaning: I renounce the power and might of Allah and I seek refuge in my own power and might if...

The man swore this way, and before he finished his statement, he collapsed dead on the ground!

Mansur Dawaniki said: After this, I will never believe anyone who speaks about you, and he gave a generous reward to the Imam and sent him back!

3⃣عَنْ یَعْقُوبَ الْأَحْمَرِ قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَی یَمِینٍ وَ هُوَ یَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ کَاذِبٌ فَقَدْ بَارَزَ اللَّهَ.

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 7, p. 435

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Whoever swears an oath while knowing that they are lying, has certainly gone to war with Allah!

4⃣عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّه قَالَ: الْیَمِینُ الْغَمُوسُ یُنْتَظَرُ بِهَا أَرْبَعِینَ لَیْلَةً.

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 7, p. 436

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: A false oath is granted a delay of forty nights!

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, if an oppressor swears in this manner:

بَرِئْتُ مِنْ حَوْلِ اللَّهِ وَ قُوَّتِهِ وَ أُلجَأتُ إِلَی حَوْلِی وَ قُوَّتِی

and then makes the claim he is lying about, he will not be given respite, and the punishment for his false oath will be hastened. However, if he praises Allah in his oath, the punishment for his false oath will not be hastened, and the heavy consequences of a false oath mentioned in the narrations will befall him in the future unless he repents.
