📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 5, p. 90

Ibn Sinan said: I asked Imam Abu al-Hasan, peace be upon him, about renting. The Imam said: It is valid and correct, and as long as one acts with sincerity and within their capacity, there is no issue with it!

2⃣عَنِ اَلْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ قَالَ: فِي رَجُلٍ اِسْتَأْجَرَ أَجِيراً فَأَقْعَدَهُ عَلَى مَتَاعِهِ فَسُرِقَ قَالَ هُوَ مُؤْتَمَنٌ.

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said regarding a man who hires someone and places him in charge of his goods, which are then stolen: He is trustworthy!

3⃣عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِیهِ أَنَّ عَلِیّاً کَانَ یَقُولُ لَا ضَمَانَ عَلَی صَاحِبِ الْحَمَّامِ فِیمَا ذَهَبَ مِنَ الثِّیَابِ لِأَنَّهُ إِنَّمَا أَخَذَ الْجُعْلَ عَلَی الْحَمَّامِ وَ لَمْ یَأْخُذْ عَلَی الثِّیَابِ.

Ishaq ibn Ammar narrated from Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, from his father, who narrated that Amir al-Mu'minin, peace be upon him, said: The owner of a bathhouse is not responsible for clothing that gets lost, because the bathhouse worker is paid for the bath, not for the clothing!

4⃣عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ اسْتَأْجَرَ أَجِیراً فَأَخَذَ الْأَجِیرُ مَتَاعَهُ فَسَرَقَهُ فَقَالَ هُوَ مُؤْتَمَنٌ ثُمَّ قَالَ الْأَجِیرُ وَ الضَّیْفُ أُمَنَاءُ لَیْسَ یَقَعُ عَلَیْهِمْ حَدُّ السَّرِقَةِ.

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 7, p. 228

Sama'ah said: I asked Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, about a man who hires someone, and the worker takes his goods and they are stolen. The Imam said: The worker is considered trustworthy! Then he said: Workers and guests are trusted, and the penalty for theft does not apply to them!

✅ The permissibility of hiring and receiving a wage for performing a lawful task is explicitly stated in general and specific narrations, including for acting as a trustee and safeguarding others' goods. One can be hired and paid for this service.

However, if the goods are lost, there are rulings related to this that are beyond the scope of this question and will be addressed separately, InshaAllah.
