Abd al-Rahman said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about the divine saying in Surah Aal-e-Imran, verse 97: "For Allah, the pilgrimage to the House is a duty upon people, for whoever can find a way to it." The Imam asked, "What do people say?" I replied, "They say it refers to provisions and a riding animal." The Imam said: "Abu Ja'far (Imam Baqir) was asked about this, and he said: 'The people are destroyed! If one has enough provisions and a means of transportation equal to what his family needs and can provide for them, and he goes to the people asking for help, he has perished.'"

Abu Rabi' narrated: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about the divine saying in Surah Aal-e-Imran, verse 97: "For Allah, the pilgrimage to the House is a duty upon people, for whoever can find a way to it." The Imam asked, "What do people say?" I replied, "They say it refers to provisions and a riding animal." The Imam said: "I asked Imam Baqir about this, and he said, 'The people are destroyed! If one has enough provisions and a means of transportation equal to what his family needs and can provide for them, and he goes to the people asking for help, he has perished.'" I then asked, "So what is the way?" The Imam replied: "Abundance in wealth, so that he performs the pilgrimage with some of it and leaves some for his family's sustenance after the pilgrimage."
📚 Al-Khisal, p. 606
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) stated: "The pilgrimage to the House is obligatory for anyone who can find a way to it. The ability (to perform Hajj) includes having provisions, a means of transportation, good health, and leaving behind for a person what is sufficient for his family. After performing Hajj, he should return to them!"
✅ According to the above narrations and others, when a person has the financial means to cover the expenses of their pilgrimage and leave enough for the sustenance of their family during their absence, they are obligated to perform the pilgrimage.
Therefore, a person cannot postpone their pilgrimage under the pretext of investing for the future of their children and should prioritize performing the pilgrimage.
