1⃣عَنِ السَّکُونِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْداللَّه قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّه عَلَیْکُمْ بِالسَّفَرِ بِاللَّیْلِ فَإِنَّ الْأَرْضَ تُطْوَی بِاللَّیْل

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 8, p. 314

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said, 'May you have prosperity in traveling at night because, indeed, the land becomes easy to traverse at night!'

2⃣عَنْ حُمْرَانَ بْنِ أَعْیَنَ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِی جَعْفَر یَقُولُ النَّاسُ تُطْوَی لَنَا الْأَرْضُ بِاللَّیْلِ کَیْفَ تُطْوَی قَالَ هَکَذَا ثُمَّ عَطَفَ ثَوْبَهُ

Hamran reported: I asked Imam Baqir (peace be upon him): People say the land becomes twisted for us at night! How does it become twisted?! The Imam lifted his garment and said: Like this!

3⃣عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّه قَالَ: الْأَرْضُ تُطْوَی فِی آخِرِ اللَّیْلِ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: The land becomes twisted (approachable and easy to travel) in the last part of the night!

4⃣عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّه قَالَ: کَانَ أَمِیرُالْمُؤْمِنِین إِذَا أَرَادَ سَفَراً أَدْلَجَ...

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Amir al-Mu'minin (Ali) (peace be upon him) used to start his journey in the last part of the night!

5⃣عَنْ عَبْدِالْعَظِیمِ الْحَسَنِیِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِیِّ بْنِ مُوسَی عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ عَنْ أَمِیرِالْمُؤْمِنِین قَالَ: بَعَثَنِی رَسُولُ اللَّهِ عَلَی الْیَمَنِ فَقَالَ لِی وَ هُوَ یُوصِینِی... یَا عَلِیُّ عَلَیْکَ بِالدُّلْجَةِ فَإِنَّ الْأَرْضَ تُطْوَی بِاللَّیْلِ مَا لَا تُطْوَی بِالنَّهَارِ....

📚 Amali al-Tusi, vol. 1, p. 135

Imam Jawad (peace be upon him) narrated from his father from his ancestors that Amir al-Mu'minin (Ali) (peace be upon him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) sent me to Yemen while advising me, he said: 'O Ali! May you have prosperity in traveling at the end of the night (or during the night), for the land becomes twisted (and easy to traverse) at night, unlike during the day....!'

6⃣عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْداللَّهِ قَالَ: قَالَ لُقْمَانُ لِابْنِهِ إِذَا سَافَرْتَ مَعَ قَوْمٍ فَأَکْثِرِ اسْتِشَارَتَکَ إِیَّاهُمْ فِی أَمْرِکَ وَ أُمُورِهِمْ..... وَ إِیَّاکَ وَ السَّیْرَ مِنْ أَوَّلِ اللَّیْلِ وَ عَلَیْکَ بِالتَّعْرِیسِ وَ الدُّلْجَةِ مِنْ لَدُنْ نِصْفِ اللَّیْلِ إِلَی آخِرِهِ...

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 8, p. 348

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Luqman (peace be upon him) advised his son, 'When you travel with a group, consult with them a lot about your affairs... and refrain from traveling during the early part of the night, for at that time, you should descend for sleep and rest, and during the latter part of the night, continue your journey!'

7⃣عَنْ أَمِیرِ الْمُؤْمِنِین فِی وَصِیَّتِهِ لِمَعْقِلِ بْنِ قَیْسٍ الرِّیَاحِیِّ حِینَ أَنْفَذَهُ إِلَی الشَّامِ فِی ثَلَاثَةِ آلَافٍ

... وَ سِرِ البَردَينِ وَ غَوّر بِالنّاسِ وَ رَفّه فِي السّيرِ وَ لَا تَسِر أَوّلَ اللّيلِ فَإِنّ اللّهَ جَعَلَهُ سَكَناً وَ قَدّرَهُ مُقَاماً لَا ظَعناً فَأَرِح فِيهِ بَدَنَكَ وَ رَوّح ظَهرَكَ فَإِذَا وَقَفتَ حِينَ يَنبَطِحُ السّحَرُ أَو حِينَ يَنفَجِرُ الفَجرُ فَسِر عَلَي بَرَكَةِ اللّهِ...

📚 Nahj al-Balagha, p. 372

Amir al-Mu'minin (Ali) (peace be upon him) in his advice to Ma'qil bin Qais, when he sent him with three thousand men towards Sham, said: 'Move during the cool times of the day, such as morning and evening, bring people down in the middle of the day and rest, travel on the road with ease and gentleness, and start moving in the early part of the night, for Allah has designated that time for tranquility and destined it for settlement, not for moving and migrating. Therefore, rest your body during that time and give your back comfort behind your mount.

So when you have taken your halt, when dawn spreads or when the light of dawn arises, start moving by the blessings of Allah!

✅ According to the above narrations and others, it is recommended that a traveler refrain from traveling in the early part of the night and dedicate it to sleep and rest, and travel during the latter part of the night.

During the day, it is recommended to descend at noon, and at the beginning and end of the day, it is advised to move.
