Question 1738: If someone enters a city without initially intending to stay for ten days and prays shortened prayers for a few days, but later decides to stay for ten days, should the remaining prayers be shortened or completed in full?
✅ Answer: Refer to the following narrations:
1⃣عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِی عُمَیْرٍ عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ یَقْطِینٍ عَنْ أَبِی الْحَسَنِ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ خَرَجَ فِی سَفَرٍ ثُمَّ تَبْدُو لَهُ الْإِقَامَةُ وَ هُوَ فِی صَلَاتِهِ قَالَ یُتِمُّ إِذَا بَدَتْ لَهُ الْإِقَامَةُ.

Ali ibn Yaqtin said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about a person who sets out on a journey and then, while praying, decides to stay. The Imam said: 'Whenever it occurs to him and he decides to stay, he should complete his prayers in full!'
2⃣أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَهْلٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا اَلْحَسَنِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ عَنِ اَلرَّجُلِ يَخْرُجُ فِي سَفَرٍ ثُمَّ تَبْدُو لَهُ اَلْإِقَامَةُ وَ هُوَ فِي صَلاَتِهِ أَ يُتِمُّ أَمْ يُقَصِّرُ قَالَ يُتِمُّ إِذَا بَدَتْ لَهُ اَلْإِقَامَةُ.

Sahl said: I asked Imam Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him) about a person who sets out on a journey and then, during prayer, decides to stay. Should they pray in full or shortened? The Imam said: 'If it occurs to him and he decides to stay (for ten days), he should pray in full!'
✅ Based on the above narrations and others, if someone initially does not intend to stay for ten days during travel but later decides to stay, they should perform their remaining prayers in full.
✅ Prayers that were performed in a shortened form before deciding to stay are valid, and there is no instruction in the narrations to repeat them in full.
