Question 1709: What is the ruling for someone who dies while in the state of Ihram?

✅ Answer: Please refer to the following narrations:

📚 Al-Faqih, Vol. 1, p. 138

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Whoever dies while in the state of Ihram, Allah will resurrect them as if they are calling out to Him (Labbaik)!

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 368

Ishaq bin Ammar said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about a woman who dies while in the state of Ihram and while menstruating; no pleasant fragrance is applied to her, even though non-Ihram women may be with her!

📚 Al-Tahdhib, Vol. 1, p. 329

Abdulrahman said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about someone who dies while in the state of Ihram, and how it is done. Imam said: Verily, Abdulrahman bin Hassan died while in the state of Ihram with Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) in the region of Abwa, and Abdullah bin Abbas and Abdullah bin Ja'far were also with him. So, Imam did what is done with the deceased, and covered his face, but did not apply any pleasant fragrance to him, and he said: This is according to the book of Ali (peace be upon him).

📚 Al-Tahdhib, Vol. 5, p. 384

Muhammad said: I asked Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) about someone who dies in the state of Ihram, and what is done with them. He said: Their face is covered, and everything that is done with a non-Ihram person is done with them, except that no pleasant fragrance is applied to them!

📚 Al-Tahdhib, Vol. 1, p. 330

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Imam Hussain (peace be upon him) and Abdullah and Ubayd, the sons of Abbas, and Abdullah bin Ja'far went out, and a son of Imam Hassan (peace be upon him) named Abdulrahman, who was in Ihram, was with them. He died in the region of Abwa. They washed him, shrouded him, and did not apply perfume (Hanout) to him, covered his face and head, and buried him.

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, if a person dies while in the state of Ihram, their washing, shrouding, prayer, and burial are the same as those of a non-Ihram person. The only difference is that no pleasant fragrance should be applied to them. Therefore, the Hanout, which is a kind of perfume, is not done, and the only thing that is omitted for someone who dies while in Ihram is the Hanout, while the rest of the procedures are like those for a non-Ihram person.
