1⃣عَنْ مُعَاوِیَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: إِنَّ لِلَّهِ تَبَارَکَ وَ تَعَالَی حَوْلَ الْکَعْبَةِ عِشْرِینَ وَ مِائَةَ رَحْمَةٍ مِنْهَا سِتُّونَ لِلطَّائِفِینَ وَ أَرْبَعُونَ لِلْمُصَلِّینَ وَ عِشْرُونَ لِلنَّاظِرِینَ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: There are 120 mercies of Allah around the Kaaba, 60 of which are for the ones performing Tawaf, 40 for those performing prayer, and 20 for those observing!

2⃣عَنْ حَرِیزٍ بن عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: الطَّوَافُ لِغَیْرِ أَهْلِ مَکَّةَ أَفْضَلُ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ وَ الصَّلَاةُ لِأَهْلِ مَکَّةَ أَفْضَلُ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: For those who are not from Mecca, Tawaf is better than prayer, and for the people of Mecca, prayer is better!

3⃣عَنْ عَبْدِ اَلرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ حَرِيزٍ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلاَمُ عَنِ اَلطَّوَافِ بِغَيْرِ أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ مِمَّنْ جَاوَرَ بِهَا أَفْضَلُ أَوِ اَلصَّلاَةُ فَقَالَ اَلطَّوَافُ لِلْمُجَاوِرِينَ أَفْضَلُ وَ اَلصَّلاَةُ لِأَهْلِ مَكَّةَ وَ اَلْقَاطِنِينَ بِهَا أَفْضَلُ مِنَ اَلطَّوَافِ

Hariz said: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Is Tawaf better for those who are not from Mecca, or prayer for the residents of Mecca? Imam replied: Tawaf is better for non-residents of Mecca (i.e., for pilgrims), and prayer is better for the residents of Mecca!

4⃣عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِی نَصْرٍ الْبَزَنْطِیِّ عَنْ أَبِی الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْمُقِیمِ بِمَکَّةَ الطَّوَافُ أَفْضَلُ لَهُ أَوِ الصَّلَاةُ قَالَ الصَّلَاةُ.

Bazzanti said: I asked Imam Rida (peace be upon him) about a person residing in Mecca, whether Tawaf or prayer is better for him. He replied: Prayer!

5⃣عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ الْحَکَمِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: مَنْ أَقَامَ بِمَکَّةَ سَنَةً فَالطَّوَافُ أَفْضَلُ لَهُ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ وَ مَنْ أَقَامَ سَنَتَیْنِ خَلَطَ مِنْ ذَا وَ مِنْ ذَا وَ مَنْ أَقَامَ ثَلَاثَ سِنِینَ کَانَتِ الصَّلَاةُ لَهُ أَفْضَلَ مِنَ الطَّوَافِ

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 412

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: A person who stays in Mecca for a year, Tawaf is better for him than prayer. A person who stays for two years mixes both in a balanced manner. A person who stays for three years, prayer is better than Tawaf for him!

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, for pilgrims who come for Hajj or Umrah to Mecca, performing Tawaf is better than prayer in Masjid al-Haram, and they should give more attention to performing Nafl Tawaf.

✅ The superiority of Tawaf for a pilgrim in Mecca does not mean abandoning Nafl prayer in Masjid al-Haram, as both have been recommended in the narrations. However, in terms of merit, Tawaf is superior for the pilgrim, while prayer is superior for the residents of Mecca.

✅ Please also pay attention to the following narration:

6⃣عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: طَوَافٌ قَبْلَ الْحَجِّ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ سَبْعِینَ طَوَافاً بَعْدَ الْحَجِّ.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 412

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: A Tawaf before Hajj is better than seventy Tawafs after Hajj!

✅ Based on the above narration, pilgrims who are in Mecca and have performed their Umrah and are waiting for the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah to begin their Hajj rites should consider that a Tawaf performed now is better than seventy Tawafs performed after Hajj. Therefore, they should regard these days as an opportunity to perform Nafl Tawaf. InshaAllah.
