Question 1702: When do the prohibited acts and things in the state of Ihram become permissible for the pilgrim?

✅ Answer: Please refer to the following narrations:

📚 Al-Faqih, Vol. 2, p. 507

Imam Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: When a person performs their sacrifice and shaves their head, everything that was prohibited due to Ihram becomes permissible, except for women and perfumes!

Then, when the pilgrim performs the visit to the Kaaba, performs Tawaf, and completes the Sa'i between Safa and Marwah, all the things that were prohibited during Ihram become permissible except for women!

And when the pilgrim performs the Tawaf al-Nisa' (Women’s Tawaf), everything that was prohibited during Ihram becomes permissible except for hunting (which is generally prohibited within the sacred precincts of Mecca).

📚 Al-Tahdheeb, Vol. 5, p. 245

Imam Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Know that when you shave your head, everything except women and perfumes becomes permissible for you!

📚 Al-Istibsar, Vol. 2, p. 289

Muhammad bin Humran said: I asked Imam Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) about a pilgrim who is not performing Hajj Tamattu' (i.e., Qiran or Ifrad). What becomes permissible for him on the Day of Eid al-Adha? Imam replied: Everything except women!

And when I asked about the pilgrim performing Hajj Tamattu', he replied: Everything except women and perfumes!

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, when the pilgrim enters the state of Ihram, certain actions become prohibited, which are detailed in the Shiite narrations.

Now, the question is, when do these prohibitions become permissible for the pilgrim?

According to the above narrations and others, in Hajj Tamattu', when the pilgrim performs the Rami al-Jamarat (throwing the stones at the Aqabah), sacrifices the animal, and shaves their head on the Day of Eid al-Adha, all the prohibitions of Ihram become permissible except for sexual relations with women, perfumes, and pleasant scents.

However, when the pilgrim performing Hajj Tamattu' continues their rituals after shaving the head, visits the Kaaba, performs the Tawaf al-Ziyarah, prays the two rak'ahs of the Tawaf, and then completes the Sa'i between Safa and Marwah, the use of perfume and pleasant scents becomes permissible for them, but sexual relations with women remains prohibited until they perform the Tawaf al-Nisa'. At this point, all the prohibitions of Ihram are lifted, except for hunting, which remains prohibited within the sacred precincts of Mecca.

✅ According to the above narrations and others, for someone whose Hajj is not Tamattu', i.e., Qiran or Ifrad, after performing the Rami al-Jamarat, sacrificing the animal, and shaving their head on the Day of Eid al-Adha, the use of perfume and pleasant scents becomes permissible for them, but sexual relations with women remain prohibited until they perform the Tawaf al-Nisa'.
