Question 1682: Can a woman wear jewelry while in Ihram?
✅ Answer: Please refer to the following narrations:
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 345
Abdul-Rahman bin Hajjaj said: I asked Imam Abu al-Hasan (peace be upon him) about a woman who has jewelry, anklets, bracelets, and earrings made of gold and silver, and she is in Ihram while having them on. They were on her before she entered Ihram. Should she remove them when she enters Ihram or leave them as they are? The Imam said: She can enter Ihram while wearing them, but she should not make them visible to men while on her journey or riding a mount!
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 344
Nadr bin Suwayd said: I asked Imam Kazim (peace be upon him) about a woman in Ihram and what type of clothes she should wear. The Imam said: She can wear all types of clothing except for clothes dyed with saffron or the plant 'waras', gloves, and jewelry she wears for beautification for her husband. She should not apply kohl unless due to illness or necessity, and should not use perfume or wear clothes made of fine fabric. He also said: Decorative patterns on clothing are permissible!
✅ In the book Majma' al-Bahrain, it is mentioned: 'Quffaz' is a type of handwear with cotton lining and buttons that fasten around the forearm, worn by Arab women for warmth.
📚 Al-Tahdhib, Vol. 5, p. 75
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: A woman in Ihram can wear all jewelry, except for jewelry that is commonly worn for adornment!
📚 Al-Faqih, Vol. 2, p. 344
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: A woman in Ihram can wear all jewelry, except for commonly known earrings and necklaces!
📚 Al-Faqih, Vol. 2, p. 345
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: When a woman has jewelry that she did not put on for Ihram, she does not need to remove it!
✅ Based on the above narrations and others, a woman can wear jewelry made of gold, silver, etc., and carry them while in Ihram under the following conditions:
1. The jewelry should not be specifically for beautifying herself for her husband.
2. The earrings and necklace should not be the famous, specific types.
3. The jewelry should not be commonly known for beautification purposes.
4. She should have worn the jewelry before the pilgrimage and not renewed them specifically for Ihram.
✅ Also, according to narration 1⃣, a woman in Ihram should not make visible the jewelry she is allowed to wear in Ihram to men.
