✅ Answer: Please refer to the following narrations:

Zurarah says: I asked Imam Baqir (AS): 'Why is a jariyda placed with the deceased?' The Imam replied: 'As long as the branch is moist, punishment and reckoning are kept away from him. All the punishment and reckoning occur on a single day and hour, as long as it is placed in the grave and the people leave. Indeed, two palm tree branches are placed for this purpose, and, insha'Allah, after they dry, punishment and reckoning will no longer affect him.'

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, the jariyda refers to the fresh palm tree branch, which should be two pieces, each approximately one cubit in length (about half a meter) or the length of a hand's span. These are placed with the deceased in the ways described in the narrations above.
✅ If fresh palm tree branches are not available, branches from a cedar tree can be used. If cedar is unavailable, branches from a willow or pomegranate tree can be used. If none of these trees are available, any other fresh tree branch can be used.
✅ It is essential that the branches are fresh, as dry branches are not permissible.
✅ The jariyda provides comfort to the believer and helps prevent punishment and reckoning, benefiting both believers and non-believers.
✅ Let us strive to perform this tradition for the deceased.
