✅ The Ja'far prayer is one of the well-known and virtuous prayers recommended by the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), which was first taught by the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) to Ja'far ibn Abi Talib after the conquest of Khaybar.

✅ Regarding the best time to perform this prayer, please pay attention to the following narration:

أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ الطَّبْرِسِيُّ فِي الْإِحْتِجَاجِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ الْحِمْيَرِيِّ عَنْ صَاحِبِ الزَّمَانِ أَنَّهُ كَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ صَلَاةِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ- فِي أَيِّ أَوْقَاتِهَا أَفْضَلُ أَنْ تُصَلَّى فِيهِ وَ هَلْ فِيهَا قُنُوتٌ وَ إِنْ كَانَ فَفِي أَيِّ رَكْعَةٍ مِنْهَا فَأَجَابَ أَفْضَلُ أَوْقَاتِهَا صَدْرُ النَّهَارِ مِنْ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ- ثُمَّ فِي أَيِّ الْأَيَّامِ شِئْتَ وَ أَيَّ وَقْتٍ صَلَّيْتَهَا مِنْ لَيْلٍ أَوْ نَهَارٍ فَهُوَ جَائِزٌ وَ الْقُنُوتُ فِيهَا مَرَّتَانِ فِي الثَّانِيَةِ قَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ وَ فِي الرَّابِعَةِ بَعْدَ الرُّكُوعِ وَ سَأَلَهُ عَنْ صَلَاةِ جَعْفَرٍ فِي السَّفَرِ هَلْ يَجُوزُ أَنْ تُصَلَّى أَمْ لَا فَأَجَابَ يَجُوزُ ذَلِكَ.

Translation: Al-Himyari wrote a letter to Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) and asked about the Ja'far prayer, which of the times is best for it to be performed, and if there is a qunut in it, and if there is, in which rak'ah is it?

Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) wrote the answer: The best time for the Ja'far prayer is the beginning of the day on Friday, and then it is permissible for you to perform it on any day you wish and at any time you want, day or night. And the qunut in it is two times, in the second rak'ah before the ruku' and in the fourth rak'ah after the ruku'. He also asked: Is it permissible to perform the Ja'far prayer while traveling? So the Imam (peace be upon him) answered: This is permissible.

✅ Regarding the location of the qunuts of the Ja'far prayer, please also pay attention to this narration:

عَنِ الرِّضَا أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُصَلِّي صَلَاةَ جَعْفَرٍ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ يُسَلِّمُ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَ يَقْنُتُ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فِي الثَّانِيَةِ قَبْلَ الرُّكُوعِ وَ بَعْدَ التَّسْبِيحِ.

Translation: It is narrated from Imam Reza (peace be upon him) that he used to perform the Ja'far prayer as four rak'ahs, and he would say the salam at the end of every two rak'ahs, and in each of them, he would perform a qunut in the second rak'ah before the ruku' and after the tasbih.

✅ Regarding one of the special times for the Ja'far prayer, please pay attention to the following narration:

عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ مُوسَى الرِّضَا عَنْ لَيْلَةِ النِّصْفِ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ- فَقَالَ هِيَ لَيْلَةٌ يُعْتِقُ اللَّهُ فِيهِ الرِّقَابَ مِنَ النَّارِ وَ يَغْفِرُ فِيهَا الذُّنُوبَ الْكِبَارَ قُلْتُ فَهَلْ فِيهَا صَلَاةٌ زِيَادَةً عَلَى صَلَاةِ سَائِرِ اللَّيَالِي فَقَالَ لَيْسَ فِيهَا شَيْ ءٌ مُوَظَّفٌ وَ لَكِنْ إِنْ أَحْبَبْتَ أَنْ تَتَطَوَّعَ فِيهَا بِشَيْ ءٍ فَعَلَيْكَ بِصَلَاةِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ - وَ أَكْثِرْ فِيهَا مِنْ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَ الِاسْتِغْفَارِ وَ الدُّعَاءِ فَإِنَّ أَبِي كَانَ يَقُولُ الدُّعَاءُ فِيهَا مُسْتَجَابٌ

📚 Uyun Akhbar al-Reza, Vol. 1, p. 292

Translation: Ibn Faddal said: I asked Imam Reza (peace be upon him) about the night of the middle of Sha'ban; the Imam said: It is a night in which Allah frees necks from the fire and forgives major sins in it. I said: Is there more prayer in it than in other nights? He said: There is nothing obligatory in it, but if you want to perform a voluntary prayer in it, you should perform the prayer of Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, and in that night, increase the remembrance of Allah and seeking forgiveness and supplication, because my father used to say: The supplication in it is answered.

✅ It is observed that the best time for the Ja'far prayer is the beginning of the day on Friday, and it is specifically recommended on the night of the middle of Sha'ban, and it is permissible to perform it on other days and times, even when traveling.
