✅ Answer: In previous posts, we understood from the narrations of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) that Aqiqah for a newborn on the seventh day is one of the obligations on the father. If he is able to do it on the seventh day, and if not, he must perform Aqiqah for his child by sacrificing a sheep when he is able.

✅ However, a person for whom his father did not perform Aqiqah has two ways to compensate for it, which will be explained with their narrations:

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p. 25

Translation: Umar ibn Yazid said: 'I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'By Allah, I do not know whether my father performed Aqiqah for me or not?' He said: 'So Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) commanded me to perform Aqiqah for myself, while I was an old man.'

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p. 39

Translation: Sama'ah said: 'I asked (Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him) about a person for whom his father did not perform Aqiqah until he grew up and became a young man or a mature man.' The Imam said: 'If a sacrifice is made for him (on the day of Eid al-Adha) or the person himself performs a sacrifice for himself on Eid al-Adha, it is sufficient for his Aqiqah.' And he said: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: 'A child is in pledge and pawn for his Aqiqah, whether his parents prevent him from it or they leave him in this pledge and pawn.'

📚 Al-Muqni' by Shaykh Saduq, p. 336

Translation: Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: 'If Aqiqah is not performed for a child and a sacrifice (on the day of Eid al-Adha) is performed on his behalf, this sacrifice is sufficient for his Aqiqah.'

✅ It is clear from the above three narrations that a person who does not know whether his father performed Aqiqah for him or not performs Aqiqah for himself. It is clear that in this matter, he must observe the conditions and manners of Aqiqah. But a person who knows that Aqiqah was not performed for him, according to the second and third narrations, if a sacrifice is made for him on Eid al-Adha or he himself performs a sacrifice for himself on Eid al-Adha, it is also sufficient for his Aqiqah. And it is again clear that this sacrifice has the conditions and rulings of the Eid sacrifice and not the rulings of Aqiqah, although it is sufficient for the person's Aqiqah.

✅ As for the conditions of the Aqiqah that a person performs for himself, there is no special difference from the Aqiqah that the father performs on the seventh day, and the person observes the same manners, which will be explained in a separate section in the future about the general manners of Aqiqah. However, in the case of a sacrifice on the day of Eid al-Adha, it is necessary to observe the same manners of the Udhiyah and Eid al-Adha, not the manners of Aqiqah.
