Answer

✅Answer: Please pay attention to the following narrations:

📚Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 52

Translation: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'Indeed, moderation is something that Allah Almighty loves, and indeed, wastefulness is something that Allah Almighty hates, even if you throw away a date pit, for it can be used for something, and even throwing away the excess (and leftovers) of your drink (is wasteful).'

📚Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p. 460

Sulayman ibn Salih said: 'I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'What is the least thing that falls under wastefulness?' The Imam said: '(The least of wastefulness is) that you make a new and worthy garment an old and unworthy one (by wearing it for work or places where it can be damaged), and that you throw away the excess and leftovers of a container (of water), and that you eat a date and throw its pit here and there.'

✅Based on the definition and examples given for wastefulness in the two hadiths above, throwing away a date pit is considered wasteful if it can be used for something. It is worth noting that in the past, in addition to being used for planting date palm trees, date pits were also used as animal feed. Today, besides being used for animal feed, they are used for treating some diseases. Of course, in many cities, there may be no conceivable use for them, but the point that this narration teaches us is the subtlety and breadth of wastefulness, which must be taken very seriously. Since throwing away a few drops of water at the bottom of a glass is considered wasteful and falls under the Quranic and narrative condemnation of wastefulness, we must, with consideration and reflection, extract hundreds of instances of wastefulness from the components of our family and social life and strive to eliminate them.

✅What is clear from the above hadiths is the broad concept of wastefulness, and given the numerous condemnations of wastefulness in the hadiths of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and the fact that wastefulness is a major sin in the words of the divine proofs, special attention must be paid to the examples of wastefulness. This is because none of us are free from it with these definitions of wastefulness, and it is observed that today, in all of Allah's blessings, how much wastefulness and extravagance there is. But the followers of the Quran and the progeny should be role models in the correct and non-wasteful consumption of divine blessings, inspired by these hadiths.

Some examples of wastefulness:

✅For example, today's water heaters have a temperature control, and if we heat the water more than necessary and are forced to mix it with cold water, this unnecessary extra fuel consumption is wasteful. This applies to washing clothes, performing ablution, and hundreds of other instances. And who can claim that their life is free from wastefulness?!

It is narrated in the book 'Mustadrak' that Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: 'My father, Imam Sajjad (peace be upon him), if he saw a piece of bread, even as small as an ant could carry, thrown away in the house, he would reduce the daily portion of food for his household by that same amount!'

✅It must be said: 'O Zayn al-Abidin (peace be upon him), come and cast a glance at the lives of those who claim to be Shi'a today, for you will see very strange things, due to the excessive wastefulness in food, water, and more...'
