1 عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الطَّائِیِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الرِّضَا یَقُولُ: یَوْمُ الْأَرْبِعَاءِ یَوْمُ نَحْسٍ مُسْتَمِرٍّ مَنِ احْتَجَمَ فِیهِ خِیفَ عليه أَنْ تَخْضَرَّ مَحَاجِمُهُ وَ مَنِ تَنَوَرَ فِیهِ خِیفَ عَلَیْهِ الْبَرَص

Ahmad said: I heard Imam al-Ridha (peace be upon him) say: Wednesday is a continuously ominous day. It is feared that one who gets a 'hijama' (cupping) on it will have a bruise at the site of the cupping, and one who applies 'nura' (depilatory) on it is feared to contract vitiligo!

2 عَنْ دَارِمِ بْنِ قَبِیصَةَ عَنِ الرِّضَا علیه السلام قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلی الله علیه و آله آخِرُ أَرْبِعَاءَ فِی الشَّهْرِ یَوْمُ نَحْسٍ مُسْتَمِرٍّ

Imam al-Ridha (peace be upon him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: The last Wednesday of the (lunar) month is a continuously ominous day!

3 عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الطَّائِیِّ عَنْ أَبِیهِ عَنِ الرِّضَا عَنْ آبَائِهِ عَنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ عَلِیٍّ علیهما السلام قَالَ: کَانَ عَلِیُّ بْنُ أَبِی طَالِبٍ علیهما السلام بِالْکُوفَةِ فِی الْجَامِعِ إِذْ قَامَ إِلَیْهِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ فَقَالَ یَا أَمِیرَ الْمُؤْمِنِینَ إِنِّی أَسْأَلُکَ عَنْ أَشْیَاءَ فَقَالَ سَلْ تَفَقُّهاً وَ لَا تَسْأَلْ تَعَنُّتاً.. إلی أَنْ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَیْهِ رَجُلٌ آخَرُ فَقَالَ یَا أَمِیرَ الْمُؤْمِنِینَ أَخْبِرْنِی عَنْ یَوْمِ الْأَرْبِعَاءِ وَ تَطَیُّرِنَا مِنْهُ وَ ثِقْلِهِ وَ أَیُّ أَرْبِعَاءَ هُوَ قَالَ آخِرُ أَرْبِعَاءَ فِی الشَّهْرِ وَ هُوَ الْمُحَاقُ...

Imam al-Hussein (peace be upon him) said: The Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him) was in the grand mosque of Kufa when suddenly a man from Syria stood up and said: O Commander of the Faithful! I have some questions for you! The Imam said: Ask for understanding and jurisprudence, not to cause trouble!

Up to the point where he said: Another man stood up and said: O Commander of the Faithful! Tell me about Wednesday and our taking bad omens from it and its heaviness. Which Wednesday is this? The Imam said: The last Wednesday of the month that coincides with 'mahaq'...

✅ 'Mahaq' refers to the last two or three nights of the lunar month when the moon is not visible either at night or during the day. The reason for this is its rising at the time of the sun, which makes it hidden and not visible at any time of the day or night. This is usually from the night of the 28th of the lunar month until the end of the month.

4 عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سُلَیْمَانَ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا قَالَ کَانَ أَبِی إِذَا خَرَجَ یَوْمَ الْأَرْبِعَاءِ مِنْ آخِرِ الشَّهْرِ وَ فِی یَوْمٍ یَکْرَهُهُ النَّاسُ مِنْ مُحَاقٍ أَوْ غَیْرِهِ تَصَدَّقَ بِصَدَقَةٍ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ

Imam al-Baqir or Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon them) said: My father, when he would go out on the last Wednesday of the month and on days that people disliked (for travel) such as 'mahaq' or otherwise, he would first give a charity and then he would travel.

5 عَنِ الْحُسَیْنِ بْنِ عُلْوَانَ عَنْ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَبِیهِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ إِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ فَتَصَدَّقْ بِصَدَقَةٍ یُذْهِبْ عَنْکَ نَحْسَ ذَلِکَ الْیَوْمِ وَ إِذَا أَمْسَیْتَ فَتَصَدَّقْ بِصَدَقَةٍ یُذْهِبْ عَنْکَ نَحْسَ تِلْکَ اللَّیْلَةِ.

Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) narrated from his father that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: When you enter the morning, give a charity so that it may ward off the inauspiciousness and bad luck of that day from you, and when you enter the night, give a charity so that it may ward off the inauspiciousness and bad luck of that night from you!

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, Wednesday, especially the last Wednesday of the lunar month, and particularly the last Wednesday of the lunar month that coincides with 'mahaq', is considered a continuously ominous day. Certain actions, such as 'hijama' (cupping), applying 'nura' (depilatory), and traveling, are prohibited on it.

To remove the inauspiciousness and bad luck for such days, one can use narrations like narration 5 and, by giving charity at the beginning of the day, ward off the inauspiciousness of that day from oneself.

✅ O dear Shias! Everyone in their city should weekly, and preferably on Fridays, gather as many Shias and lovers of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) as they can and spend an hour in prayer and supplication for the hastening of the 'faraj' (relief) of Imam al-Zaman (peace be upon him), for we are in great need of this.
