Is ointment used for rubbing, which contains shellfish meat in its ingredients, pure, and can one perform prayers with it on the body?

1⃣ عَنْ عَمَّارٍ السَّابَاطِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: سُئِلَ عَنِ الْخُنْفَسَاءِ وَ الذُّبَابِ وَ الْجَرَادِ وَ النَّمْلَةِ وَ مَا أَشْبَهَ ذَلِكَ يَمُوتُ فِي الْبِئْرِ وَ الزَّيْتِ وَ السَّمْنِ وَ شِبْهِهِ قَالَ كُلُّ مَا لَيْسَ لَهُ دَمٌ فَلَا بَأْسَ بِهِ.

Ammar narrated: I asked Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, about scorpions, flies, beetles, ants, and the like, which die in a well or in olive oil or animal fat and the like. The Imam said: Anything that does not have blood is not problematic!

2⃣عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ يَعْنِي أَحْمَدَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ: لَا يُفْسِدُ الْمَاءَ إِلَّا مَا كَانَتْ لَهُ نَفْسٌ سَائِلَةٌ.

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: It does not render water corrupt unless it is something bleeding and flowing!

3⃣عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ كُلُّ شَيْ ءٍ يَسْقُطُ فِي الْبِئْرِ لَيْسَ لَهُ دَمٌ مِثْلُ الْعَقَارِبِ وَ الْخَنَافِسِ وَ أَشْبَاهِ ذَلِكَ فَلَا بَأْسَ.

Imam Sadiq, peace be upon him, said: Anything falling into a well, such as scorpions, beetles, and the like, that does not have bleeding (flowing) is not problematic!

4⃣عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الْعَلَوِيِّ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَخِيهِ مُوسَى بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْعَقْرَبِ وَ الْخُنْفَسَاءِ وَ أَشْبَاهِهِنَّ تَمُوتُ فِي الْجَرَّةِ أَوِ الدَّنِّ يُتَوَضَّأُ مِنْهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ قَالَ لَا بَأْسَ بِهِ.

Ali ibn Jafar reported: I asked Musa ibn Jafar, peace be upon him, about scorpions, flies, and similar creatures that die in large pitchers and containers from which water is taken for ablution. The Imam said: There is no problem with that!

5⃣عَنْ عَلِیِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَخِیهِ أَبِی الْحَسَنِ الْأَوَّلِ قَالَ: لَا یَحِلُّ أَکْلُ الْجِرِّیِّ وَ لَا السُّلَحْفَاةِ وَ لَا السَّرَطَانِ قَالَ وَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ اللَّحْمِ الَّذِی یَکُونُ فِی أَصْدَافِ الْبَحْرِ وَ الْفُرَاتِ أَ یُؤْکَلُ فَقَالَ ذَاکَ لَحْمُ الضَّفَادِعِ لَا یَحِلُّ أَکْلُهُ.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, Page 221

Ali ibn Jafar reported: Imam Kazim, peace be upon him, said: Eating snake, turtle, and crab meat is not halal!

Ali ibn Jafar reported: I asked them about the meat found in sea shells in the Euphrates and similar places, whether it is edible. The Imams replied: That is among the meats of frogs; eating it is not halal!

✅ According to the above and other narrations, eating shellfish meat is prohibited. However, because the shellfish does not have bleeding (flowing) blood, its body and its dead body are pure. If ointments for rubbing contain shellfish meat in their composition, they are considered pure. Therefore, if such an ointment is applied to the body, one can perform prayers with it.
