Question 1504: What is the duty of someone who doubts the number of rak'ahs in their prayer or something else after the prayer?
✅ Answer: Please consider the following narrations:
📚 Al-Tahdhib, Vol. 2, p. 348
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said regarding someone who doubts after completing their prayer: He does not repeat the prayer and nothing is required of him!
📚 Al-Tahdhib, Vol. 2, p. 352
Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: Whatever doubt arises after completing the prayer, let it go and do not repeat the prayer!
📚 Al-Faqih, Vol. 1, p. 352
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: If someone doubts after finishing their prayer and does not know if they prayed three or four rak'ahs, and when they completed and left the prayer, they were certain that they had finished it, they do not need to repeat the prayer. When they left the prayer, they were closer to the truth from that point on!
✅ Based on the above narrations and others, if someone doubts something about their prayer after finishing and leaving it, they let it go and pay no attention to it. There is no need to repeat the prayer and nothing is required of them. This is called 'doubt after completion'.
Thus, one of the conditions for a doubt to be significant is that it should occur before completing the prayer.
✅ The principles in the above narrations cover all doubts after completion of the prayer and specify the ruling for us.
✅ Knowledge of the rulings mentioned in the narrations makes the experience of reciting this part of the Ziyarat al-Jama'ah during the visitation of the Infallibles even more pleasurable: 'My father, mother, and soul are sacrificed for you! With your love and guardianship, Allah taught us the rulings of our religion and corrected what was corrupt in our world!'
✅ Let no one advise us to stop deriving the rulings and needs of our religion directly from the words and hadiths of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), because in addition to this being our religious duty, we have derived such pleasure from it that we would never exchange it for anything else. And in order to quickly remove the intermediaries and hear these words and hadiths from the blessed lips of our Master Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon him) and act upon them, we always and abundantly say with supplication:
