Question 1499: A person does not have the financial ability to go on Hajj themselves, but someone has offered to pay for their Hajj. Is such a person considered capable (mustati')?

Answer
✅ Answer: Please pay attention to the following narrations:

Abu Basir said: 'I heard Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) say: 'Whoever is offered Hajj, even if it is on an ear- and tail-less donkey, and he refuses, then such a person is capable (mustati') of Hajj!'

In a hadith, Halabi said: 'I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'If what is needed to perform Hajj is offered to a person, but he is too shy to accept it, is he one of those who are able to find a way to it? (and is he mustati')?' The Imam said: 'Yes! It is not for him to be shy or feel embarrassed, even if it is on an ear- and tail-less donkey! So if he is able to walk part of the way and ride part of it, he should also perform Hajj!'

Mu'awiyah ibn Ammar said: 'I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'A person does not have money, and one of his brothers sends him for Hajj. Is it sufficient for his Hajj al-Islam (obligatory Hajj) or is it incomplete?' The Imam said: 'Rather, it is a complete Hajj!'
✅ According to the above narrations and others, if a person does not have the financial ability and capability for Hajj but someone is willing to pay for their travel expenses, such a person is considered mustati' (capable), and it is an obligation upon them to perform their Hajj, and they should not be embarrassed or shy to accept it, and this Hajj is sufficient for Hajj al-Islam, which is a person's obligatory Hajj.
