✅ Answer: Consider the following narrations:

1 عَنْ سُلَیْمَانَ بْنِ حَفْصٍ الْمَرْوَزِیِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ یَقُولُ إِنْ لَمْ تَجِدْ مَنْ تَضَعُ الْفِطْرَةَ فِیهِ فَاعْزِلْهَا تِلْکَ السَّاعَةَ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ الْحَدِیثَ.

Suleiman says: I heard the Imam (peace be upon him) say: If you cannot find someone to give Zakat al-Fitra to, set it aside before the Eid al-Fitr prayer!

2 عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ وَ غَیْرِهِ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْفِطْرَةِ فَقَالَ إِذَا عَزَلْتَهَا فَلَا یَضُرُّکَ مَتَی أَعْطَیْتَهَا قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ أَوْ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ.

Ishaq ibn Ammar and others say: I asked the Imam (peace be upon him) about Zakat al-Fitra; he said: If you set it aside, there is no harm in paying it either before or after the Eid prayer!

3 عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِی عُمَیْرٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: فِی الْفِطْرَةِ إِذَا عَزَلْتَهَا وَ أَنْتَ تَطْلُبُ بِهَا الْمَوْضِعَ أَوْ تَنْتَظِرُ بِهَا رَجُلًا فَلَا بَأْسَ بِهِ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said regarding Zakat al-Fitra: If you set it aside and are seeking a place or person for it, there is no issue!

4 عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فِی حَدِیثٍ قَالَ: وَ إِعْطَاءُ الْفِطْرَةِ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ أَفْضَلُ وَ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ صَدَقَةٌ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said in a narration: Paying Zakat al-Fitra before the prayer is preferable, and after the prayer, it is considered charity!

5 عَنْ إِبْرَاهِیمَ بْنِ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْفِطْرَةُ إِنْ أُعْطِیَتْ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَخْرُجَ إِلَی الْعِیدِ فَهِیَ فِطْرَةٌ وَ إِنْ کَانَتْ بَعْدَ مَا تَخْرُجُ إِلَی الْعِیدِ فَهِیَ صَدَقَةٌ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: If Zakat al-Fitra is paid before going out for the Eid prayer, it is considered Zakat al-Fitra; if it is paid after going out for the Eid prayer, it is charity!

6 عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ مُکْرَمٍ الْجَمَّالِ عَنْ أَبِی عَبْداللَّهِ قَالَ: أَعْطِ الْفِطْرَةَ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ وَ هُوَ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ وَ أَقِیمُوا الصَّلاةَ وَ آتُوا الزَّکاةَ

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Pay Zakat al-Fitra before the Eid prayer, and this is the statement of Allah the Exalted (in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 43): ‘Establish prayer and give Zakat’!

✅ Based on the above narrations and others, Zakat al-Fitra must be given, paid, and delivered to its rightful recipient. Given the characteristics of bank transfers (card to card), which are common nowadays, the amount becomes the property of the recipient and is accessible and usable by them. Therefore, paying Zakat al-Fitra via bank transfer is sufficient.

✅ However, if this Zakat is paid before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, it is considered Zakat al-Fitra. If someone, for any reason, cannot pay it before the Eid prayer, they should set it aside. Since money in an account cannot be physically set aside, it is appropriate to either transfer it to the recipient’s account before the Eid prayer, prepare the physical cash and set it aside, or transfer it to a specific, designated card for Zakat al-Fitra.

✅ If a person fails to transfer it to the account of a poor person before the Eid prayer, they can still transfer it afterward, but according to the above narrations and others, it will not be considered Zakat al-Fitra; rather, it will be regarded as charity, as they neither paid it on time nor set it aside.
