✅Answer: Please pay attention to the following narrations:

📚Al-Tahdhib, Vol. 1, p. 55

Zurarah said: Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) narrated the ablution of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) for us. So he asked for a cup of water, put his right hand in it, took a handful of water, and let it flow over his face from the top, and then he wiped the two sides of his face with his hand...

📚Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 25

Zurarah said: Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: Should I not narrate the ablution of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) for you? We said: Yes! So he asked for a large bowl with some water in it and placed it in front of him, and he bared his two forearms, and then he immersed his right hand in the water and said: This is if the hand is clean, and then he filled his palm with water once and placed it on his forehead and said 'Bismillah' and let it flow over the sides of his beard, then he wiped his hand over his face and forehead...

📚Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 24

Muhammad ibn Muslim said: Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: Should I not explain the ablution of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) to you?! I said: Yes! So the Imam immersed his hand in the vessel without washing it and took a handful of water and poured it on his face, then he wiped the two sides of his face until he had wiped all of it...

📚Tafsir al-Ayyashi, Vol. 1, p. 298, hadith 51

Zurarah and Bukayr, sons of A'yan, said: We asked Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) about the ablution of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family); the Imam asked for a basin or a net (which is a type of vessel) with water in it, and he put his right hand in and took a handful of water and poured it on his forehead and washed his face with it....

📚Qurb al-Isnad, p. 129

Abu Jarir said: I said to Imam Kadhim (peace be upon him): How should I perform ablution for prayer? He said: Do not be too meticulous in ablution and do not splash the water on the face, but rather wash the face with water from the top of your face downwards, by wiping it!

✅Based on the above narrations and others, it is clear that to wash the face in ablution, a handful of water is taken and poured on the forehead, and the face is wiped from top to bottom until it is completely washed, and one can both, according to narration 1, let the water flow over the face from the top, and one can pour the water on the forehead and then wipe the two sides of the face until it is completely washed, and both scenarios in the question are correct and valid, and one only needs to be careful that the face is washed from top to bottom.

🞄 Exhortations from Imam Kadhim (peace be upon him):

Imam Musa Kadhim (peace be upon him) said:

Being a good neighbor is not about not causing harm, but rather, good neighborliness is about enduring harm....

And the peace of God be upon him who said:

Calamity for the patient is one,

And for the impatient it is two.
