Answer

✅ Answer: According to narrations, the morning supererogatory prayer, which consists of two rak’ahs, can be performed at various times, all of which are before the morning prayer. The details are clarified by the following narrations:

📚 Man La Yahduruhu al-Faqih, Vol. 1, p. 493

Translation: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Perform the two rak’ahs of the morning Nafila prayer before the dawn (Fajr), during the dawn, and shortly after it. In the first rak’ah, recite Surah Al-Fatiha and Surah Qul Ya Ayyuhal-Kafirun, and in the second rak’ah, recite Surah Al-Fatiha and Surah Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad.

📚 Tahdhib, Vol. 2, p. 133

Translation: Muhammad ibn Muslim says: I asked Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) about the earliest time for the two rak’ahs of the morning Nafila prayer; he said: The last sixth of the night.

📚 Tahdhib, Vol. 2, p. 132

Translation: Buzanti says: I asked Imam Reza (peace be upon him) about the two rak’ahs of the morning Nafila prayer; he said: Include these two rak’ahs in the night prayer (i.e., perform them after the Witr prayer).

✅ Other narrations also mention performing the morning Nafila after the Witr prayer, stating that the morning Nafila is part of the night prayers. However, regarding performing the morning Nafila after the dawn and its time limit, consider the following narration:

📚 Tahdhib, Vol. 2, p. 135

Translation: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Perform the morning Nafila until the light of dawn is directly above your head. If this time has passed, perform the morning prayer first.

✅ Meaning: You have until the brightness of dawn reaches the middle of the sky to perform the morning Nafila. If you have not performed the morning Nafila by then, you should first perform the morning prayer and then make up the Nafila.

However, according to a narration in 📚 Tahdhib, Vol. 2, p. 340, if there is a congregational prayer, you have until the muezzin says 'Qad Qamat al-Salah' to perform the morning Nafila. Thus, based on the narrations, the morning Nafila prayer can be performed before the dawn, during the dawn, and after the dawn until the light of dawn reaches the middle of the sky. However, someone who performs it before the dawn, sleeps, and wakes up before the dawn, according to the following narration, should repeat it:

📚 Tahdhib, Vol. 2, p. 135

Translation: Hammad says: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said to me: Sometimes I perform the morning Nafila while part of the night remains. If I wake up (from sleep) and the dawn has not yet risen, I repeat it.

✅ The above narration also applies to someone who performs the night prayer and morning Nafila after midnight, sleeps, and wakes up before the dawn.
