📚Tahdhib al-Ahkam, vol. 4, p. 212

Ibrahim narrated from one of the infallible Imams, who said: '...and if someone becomes impure at night during Ramadan, he has no right to sleep (unless) for a specific time so that he can perform ghusl (before the break of dawn). So, if someone becomes impure in Ramadan and intentionally sleeps until morning, he must free a slave or feed 60 needy people, and he must make up for that day. He should also complete the fast for that day, and he will never achieve its full merit!'

📚Tahdhib al-Ahkam, vol. 4, p. 212

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said about a person who becomes impure at night during Ramadan and intentionally neglects to perform ghusl until morning: 'He must free a slave, or fast for two consecutive months, or feed 60 needy people!'

And he said: 'It is fitting that I never see him achieve its full merit!'

3 From Sulayman ibn Ja'far al-Marwazi, from al-Faqih, he said: 'If a man becomes impure at night during the month of Ramadan and does not perform ghusl until morning, he must fast for two consecutive months in addition to fasting that day, and he will not achieve the merit of that day.'

📚Tahdhib al-Ahkam, vol. 4, p. 212

Imam Askari (peace be upon him) said: 'If a person becomes impure at night in Ramadan and (intentionally) does not perform ghusl until morning, he must fast for two consecutive months in addition to making up for that day, and despite this, he will still not achieve the merit of that day!'

📚Tahdhib al-Ahkam, vol. 4, p. 210

Ismail said: I said to Imam Reza (peace be upon him): 'What is obligatory on a person who becomes impure (in Ramadan) and oversleeps until morning?' He said: 'There is nothing upon him; he performs ghusl!'

5 Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said about someone who becomes impure at the beginning of the night in Ramadan and then sleeps until morning: 'There is nothing upon him, because his state of impurity was during a permissible time!'

📚Al-Faqih, vol. 2, p. 119

📚Qurb al-Isnad, p. 76

Ibn Ri'ab said: In my presence, Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) was asked about a person who becomes impure at night in Ramadan and then sleeps and does not perform ghusl until morning; the Imam said: 'There is no problem; he performs ghusl, prays, and fasts!'

7 Mu'awiyah ibn Ammar said: I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'A person becomes impure at the beginning of the night in Ramadan, and then he sleeps until morning!'

The Imam said: 'There is nothing upon him!'

I said: 'He wakes up but sleeps again until morning!'

He said: 'He must make up for that day as a punishment!'

✅According to numerous narrations, such as narration 1 , if someone becomes impure at night during the month of Ramadan, they are obligated to perform ghusl before the break of dawn. If they sleep, they should limit their sleep and wake up before the break of dawn to perform ghusl.

✅ However, if they enter the morning in a state of impurity, three situations with three different obligations are conceivable:

1. Someone who intentionally does not perform ghusl until the break of dawn, or who intentionally sleeps until morning without intending to wake up before the break of dawn. According to narrations 1 , 2 , and 3 , they must fast that day and also make up for it, and they must also pay one of the three types of atonement.

2. Someone who sleeps in a state of impurity but unintentionally oversleeps until morning. According to narrations 4 , 5 , and 6 , they perform ghusl, pray, and continue their fast, and there is nothing upon them.

3. Someone who sleeps in a state of impurity but wakes up before the break of dawn, only to fall back asleep and oversleep until the break of dawn. According to narration 7 , they must fast and make up for that day as a punishment for going back to sleep without performing ghusl!
