Answer
I feel flatulence in my stomach, to the extent that I think it has come out. Is my wudu' nullified?
✅Answer:
📚 Uyun Akhbar al-Ridha, Vol. 2, p. 123
Imam Reza (peace be upon him) wrote to Ma'mun regarding pure Islam: Wudu' is not nullified except by defecation, urination, gas, sleep, or major ritual impurity (janabah)!
📚 Uyun Akhbar al-Ridha, Vol. 2, p. 104
Imam Reza (peace be upon him) said: If someone asks why wudu' is only obligatory from what comes out of the two ends (i.e., the exit for urine and feces) and from sleep, and not from other things, it is said: Because those two ends are paths of impurity, until he said: As for sleep, indeed, a sleeping person, when sleep overcomes him, everything from him becomes loose and weak, and the most common thing that comes out of him is gas, so for this reason, wudu' is obligatory upon him!
📚 Al-Tahdheeb, Vol. 1, p. 346
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Wudu' is not necessary except from defecation, urination, a fart (i.e., audible gas that comes out of the anus) whose sound you hear, or a flatus (i.e., silent gas that comes out of the anus) whose smell you sense!
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 36
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Indeed, Satan blows into a person's anus to make him imagine and fantasize that gas has come out of him, and wudu' is not nullified except by gas whose sound you hear or whose smell you sense!
5 Sam'ah said: I asked the Imam (Sadiq) (peace be upon him) about what nullifies wudu'; he said: An event (hadath) whose sound you hear or whose smell you notice!
📚 Al-Tahdheeb, Vol. 1, p. 12
📚 Faqih, Vol. 1, p. 62
Abd al-Rahman said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): I feel gas in my stomach, to the extent that I think it has come out. (Is my wudu' nullified)? He said: It is not your duty to perform wudu' until you hear a sound or notice a smell.
Then he said: Indeed, Iblis sits between a person's buttocks and causes an event (hadath) to make him doubt!
📚 Qurb al-Isnad, p. 92
Ali ibn Ja'far said: I asked Musa ibn Ja'far (peace be upon him) about a person who is in prayer, then he becomes certain that gas came out but he does not notice a smell and does not hear a sound; the Imam said: If he becomes certain of it with certainty, he repeats the wudu' and the prayer and does not count anything he has recited!
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 33
Bukayr said: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said to me: When you are certain that an event (hadath) has occurred from you, perform wudu' and be careful not to ever renew a wudu' until you are certain that you have performed an event (hadath)!
✅ So only gas that is heard or whose smell is sensed or whose exit is known with certainty nullifies wudu', and no attention is paid to doubtful cases.
