Question 735: What prayers are recommended for Friday?

664 views 13 Feb 2021

Answer

✅Answer: Pay attention to a few of the prayers for Friday:

1️⃣ Abu Rekaz said: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever says, on Friday, after he has prayed the Fajr (dawn) prayer, before speaking:

'It is an expiation for this Friday until the next Friday.'

📚 Jamal al-Usbu, p. 228

2️⃣ Muhammad ibn Sinan said: The scholar (Imam) (peace be upon him) said to me: 'O Muhammad ibn Sinan, have you prayed the obligatory prayer today?' And it was a Friday. I said: 'What is it, O my master?' He said: 'You say:'

And you look at the sun and say:

📚 Jamal al-Usbu, p. 230

3️⃣ Zayd al-Shahham said: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'There is no act on Friday more virtuous than sending blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, even if it is 101 times!'

Zayd al-Shahham said: I said: 'How do I send blessings upon them?' He said: 'You say:'

📚 Al-Mahasin, vol. 1, p. 58

4️⃣ Jabir said: Ali (peace be upon him) used to say: 'Increase your supplications and requests on Friday, for there are hours in it when prayers are answered, as long as the prayer is not for cutting ties, committing a sin, or disobedience to parents. And know that good and evil are multiplied on Friday!'

5️⃣ Among the best and most comprehensive prayers for Friday are Prayer 46 and Prayer 48 of Sahifah Sajjadiyyah, which have very excellent and unparalleled meanings. Insha'Allah, we should try not to deprive ourselves of them and also say a lot:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Questions that arise for most lovers of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them):

🔹 What recommendations did the infallible Imams (peace be upon them) have for referring to narrations?

🔸 What guarantee of salvation is there in referring to the narrations of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them)?

🔹 What virtues and benefits are there in acting upon the narrations of the infallible Imams (peace be upon them)?

🔸 On what should a person, who is a responsible individual (mukallaf), base their actions?

✅ We have placed this as the main question of the channel.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Question 1:

On what should a person, who is a responsible individual (mukallaf), base their actions?

✅ In response to this question, hundreds of verses, narrations, and proofs can be cited, but as an example, we will mention some narrations that specify what a person should base their worship and beliefs on, hoping that it will, Insha'Allah, be a strengthening for the believers and a reminder for those who abandon the scholarly door of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them):

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 186

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'Visit each other, for in your visits, your hearts are revived, and our narrations are mentioned. Our narrations make you kind and compassionate towards one another.'

So if you act upon them (i.e., our narrations), you will be guided and saved. And if you abandon them, you will be misled and perish!

So act upon our narrations, and (in this case) I am a guarantor and a surety for your salvation!

📚 Al-Mahasin, p. 227, h. 156

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: 'Hasten to seek knowledge, for by the One in whose hand is my soul, one narration about lawful and unlawful matters that you take from the truthful one (Imam) is better than the world and what it holds of gold and silver!'

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 19

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said in a narration: 'Be aware that if a person performs night vigil and fasts during the day, and gives all his wealth in charity, and performs Hajj all his life, but does not recognize the Wilayah (guardianship) of the Wali Allah (Guardian of Allah) so that he has his Wilayah and all his actions are guided and directed by him, he has no right with Allah to be rewarded, and such a person is not from the people of faith!'

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 1, p. 390

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said in a narration:

Indeed, people are obligated to three things:

1. Knowing and recognizing the Imams (peace be upon them).

2. Submitting to them in what reaches them.

3. Referring to them in what they differ on.

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 401

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'Be aware that it is evil for you to say (and believe) something that you have not heard from us!'

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 1, p. 33

Muawiyah ibn Ammar said: I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'A man narrates your narrations and spreads them among the people and strengthens them in their hearts and the hearts of your Shia, and perhaps there is a worshiper among your Shia who does not have this narration. Which of them is more virtuous?'

The Imam said: 'The narrator of our narrations who strengthens the hearts of our Shia with it is more virtuous and better than a thousand worshipers!'

Regarding what a person (mukallaf) should base their actions on:

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 8, p. 8

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) wrote in his treatise to his companions: 'O group whose affairs Allah has preserved, عليكم (you are obligated) to the traditions and narrations of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) and his Sunnah, and the traditions and narrations of the Imams of Guidance from the Ahl al-Bayt of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) after him and their Sunnah. For whoever takes them and acts upon them, he is truly guided, and whoever abandons them and turns away from them is misled, for these are the ones whose obedience and Wilayah Allah has commanded!'

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 6, p. 47

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'Precede and be ahead with narrations to your children, before the Murji'ah (a deviant sect) precede you to them!'

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 1, p. 339

Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i narrates from one of the trusted companions of Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) that he said: 'Indeed, Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him) said this on the pulpit of Kufa, and it was preserved from him, that he said: 'O Allah, it is inevitable that there will be proofs from you, one after another, on your earth for your creation, to guide the creation to your religion and teach them your knowledge, so that the followers of your allies do not scatter. This proof is either apparent and is not obeyed, or hidden and awaits (like our strange master, Imam Zaman, peace be upon him).' '

But if his body is absent from them during the time of truce (peace and tranquility or the time before the Imam's uprising), the knowledge that has been spread from them in the past is not absent from them, and their manners are firmly established in their hearts, so they act upon them!'

📚 Al-Faqih, vol. 4, p. 366

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) narrated from his forefathers that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said in his will to Ali (peace be upon him): 'O Ali, the most amazing people in terms of faith and the greatest in terms of certainty are a group who will be at the end of time, who did not perceive the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family), and the proof is veiled and hidden from them, so they believe with the black on white (i.e., the writings of the Quran and narrations)!'

📚 Al-Ghaybah li al-Tusi, p. 239

Husayn ibn Rawh (the third deputy of Imam Zaman, peace be upon him) narrated that he was asked about the books of Banu Faddal (who were initially Shia but then deviated), and he said: 'Act on what they have narrated and leave what they have opined!'

Regarding what a person (mukallaf) should base their actions on:

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 1, p. 65

Nasr al-Khath'ami said: I heard Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) say: 'Whoever has the knowledge that we, the Ahl al-Bayt, only speak the truth, then let him suffice with what he knows from us...!'

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 1, p. 67

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said to one of his companions: 'Inform me, if I narrate a hadith to you this year, and then you come to me next year, and I tell you a hadith that contradicts it (for the sake of taqiyya or otherwise), which one will you take and act upon?' He said: 'The last hadith!' The Imam said: 'May Allah have mercy on you!'

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 1, p. 67

Mu'alla ibn Khunays said: I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'If a hadith comes from your first (ancestors) and a hadith from your last, which one should we act upon?' He said: 'Act upon it until something from the living Imam reaches you, and when something from the living Imam reaches you, act upon his words!'

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 1, p. 40

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'People have no latitude until they ask and seek understanding and know their Imam, and they have latitude to take and act upon what he says, even if he said it for the sake of taqiyya!'

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 222

Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: 'When a hadith from us reaches you, and you find one or two witnesses for it from the Quran, then act upon it. Otherwise, stop at it and refer it back to us until it becomes clear to you!'

📚 Ilal al-Shara'i, p. 531

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'Do you know why you have been commanded to act upon the hadith that contradicts the public (Sunnis)?' I said: 'We do not know!'

The Imam said: 'Because Ali (peace be upon him) did not practice or believe in anything for the sake of Allah except that the Ummah would oppose him by doing something else to invalidate his matter, and they would ask him about things they did not know from Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him), and when he would give them a fatwa, they would make up the opposite of it on their own to confuse the people!'

📚 Sifat al-Shi'ah, p. 3, h. 2

Imam Reza (peace be upon him) said: 'Our Shia are those who submit to our command and take and act upon our words and oppose our enemies. So whoever is not like this is not from us!'

Sifat al-Shi'ah

Regarding what a person (mukallaf) should base their actions on:

The command and necessity to act upon narrations

📚 Al-Bihar, vol. 2, p. 235

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'When two conflicting hadiths reach you, عرض (present) them to the Quran. Then, take and act upon what agrees with the Quran, and reject what contradicts the Quran. And if you do not find them in the Quran, عرض (present) them to the hadiths of the public (Sunnis). Then, leave what agrees with their narrations and take and act upon what contradicts their narrations!'

📚 Al-Bihar, vol. 2, p. 235

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'When two conflicting hadiths reach you, then take and act upon the one that contradicts the public!'

📚 Al-Bihar, vol. 2, p. 235

Hasan ibn Jahm said: I said to Imam Kadhim (peace be upon him): 'Do we have any permission other than submission regarding what reaches us from you?' The Imam said: 'By Allah, no. You have no permission or latitude other than submission to us!'

I said: 'A hadith is narrated from Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him), and its opposite is also narrated from him. So which one should we take and act upon?'

He said: 'Take and act upon what contradicts the public, and avoid what agrees with the public!'

📚 Al-Bihar, vol. 2, p. 235

Muhammad ibn Abdullah said: I said to Imam Reza (peace be upon him): 'What should we do with two conflicting hadiths?' He said: 'When two conflicting hadiths reach you, look at which of them contradicts the public. Then take and act upon it, and look at what agrees with their narrations and leave it!'

📚 Al-Sarair, p. 479

Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Isa wrote a letter to the Imam (peace be upon him) and asked: 'The knowledge transmitted from your ancestors is different for us. So, how should we act given the difference? Or should we refer the differing cases back to you?' The Imam wrote in reply: 'What you know is from our words, adhere to it, and what you do not know (to be our saying), refer it back to us!'

Regarding what a person (mukallaf) should base their actions on:

📚 Al-Ihtijaj, p. 357

Sama'ah said: 'Two hadiths reach us: one of them commands us to do that (thing), and the other forbids us from it!'

The Imam said: 'Do not act on either of them until you meet your Imam and ask him!'

I said: 'We must act on one of them!'

The Imam said: 'Then take and act upon the hadith that contradicts the public!'

📚 Al-Tahdhib, vol. 3, p. 228

Ali ibn Mahziyar said: I read in a letter from Abdullah ibn Muhammad to Abul Hassan (peace be upon him): 'Our companions differ in their narrations from Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) regarding the supererogatory Fajr prayer on a journey. Some of them narrated that one should pray those two rak'ahs in the howdah (palanquin), and some narrated that one should not pray them except on the ground. So inform me which one you act upon so that I may follow you?'

So the Imam wrote in reply: 'You have latitude to act on either of them!'

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 1, p. 377

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever practices and obeys Allah without hearing from a truthful and honest person (i.e., the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them), Allah will make him adhere to confusion until he perishes. And whoever claims to hear (for belief and action) from other than the door that Allah has opened is a polytheist, and that is the door considered trustworthy for the hidden secret of Allah (i.e., the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them)!'

📚 Basair al-Darajat, p. 531

Fudayl said: I heard Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) say: 'Whatever has not come out from this house (i.e., the house of the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them), then it is false!'

Regarding what a person (mukallaf) should base their actions on:

📚 Mukhtasar Basair al-Darajat, p. 92

Hajjaj ibn Sabbah said: I said to Imam Baqir (peace be upon him): 'We narrate a hadith from you, and then one of us says: Our words are their words!'

The Imam said: 'What is your intention? Do you also want to be an Imam to be followed?!'

👈 'Whoever refers the words back to us remains safe!'

✅ This means that the true word he wants to give a fatwa on or express, he should attribute it to the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and narrate from their saying, not narrate it from himself. 👉

29. And he (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever takes his religion from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet (peace be upon him and his family), the mountains will move before he moves. And whoever takes his religion from the mouths of men, the men will turn him back.'

📚 Al-Kafi, vol. 1, p. 6

The Imam (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever takes his religion from the Quran and the Sunnah of his Prophet (peace be upon him and his family):'

👈 'The mountains will move from their place before such a person moves from his place!'

(i.e., he becomes more stable and firm than a mountain) and whoever takes his religion from the mouths of men:

👈 'Those very men will turn him back!'

✅✅ Shaykh Kulayni narrated the above hadith in the introduction of the book Al-Kafi, and in the book Rawdat al-Wa'izin, it is narrated from the saying of Amir al-Mu'minin (peace be upon him).

📚 Ikmal al-Din, p. 484, h. 4

Ishaq ibn Yaqub said: 'I asked Muhammad ibn Uthman al-Amri to deliver a letter containing issues that had become difficult for me to (Imam Zaman, peace be upon him).'

Then the rescript was issued in the handwriting of our master, the Master of the Age: 'May Allah guide you and keep you firm. As for what you asked about... up to... And as for the new events, refer to the narrators of our hadiths, for they are my proof over you, and I am the proof of Allah over them!'

✅ These are a very small part of the evidence that shows that the actions of every responsible Shia must be based on the Quran and the words, statements, hadiths, and narrations of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), which they have either heard directly from the Imam or, according to their jurisprudential and scholarly ability, have selected from the narrated traditions, or have taken them from trustworthy and truthful intermediaries, scholars, and jurists who are narrators and transmitters of the hadith of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and act upon them, which of course must be according to jurisprudence and knowledge. But what is important is that the responsible person bases their actions and beliefs on the hadiths and words of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and takes and acts upon the Imam's words, whether with or without an intermediary.

✅ The above narrations needed to be explained with other narrations, but our purpose in narrating them in this summary was to provide evidence for the necessity of basing the actions and beliefs of the responsible person on the authentic, firm, and actionable hadiths of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).

We hope that all lovers of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) will return to acting upon the texts of the words of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) and act upon them, because in hadith 1, Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) guaranteed the salvation of such people!

And this is a preparation for the time of the appearance of Imam Zaman (peace be upon him), for whom everyone is obligated to obey!

Therefore, in addition to acting upon the texts of verses and narrations in all matters and basing all actions and beliefs on authentic, firm, and actionable narrations according to jurisprudence and knowledge, we always and with humility say:
