Question 719: Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) commanded: 'Pray a great deal for the hastening of the relief,' what does 'a great deal' mean?

Answer
✅ The narration in question is:
📚 Kamal al-Din, Vol. 2, p. 162
It was received from the Holy Side through Muhammad ibn Uthman: '...and pray a 'great deal' for the hastening of the relief, for indeed it is your relief!'
✅ To interpret 'kathir' (a great deal) in any matter, the explanation of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) is needed. No specific interpretation for this case has been narrated, but please pay attention to some of its interpretations which can be general:
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 2, p. 500
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: The glorification (tasbih) of Fatima Zahra (peace be upon her) is part of the 'great' remembrance that Allah, the Almighty and Glorious, has mentioned (in Surah Al-Ahzab, verse 41): 'Remember Allah with a great remembrance!'
✅ The tasbih of Fatima (peace be upon her) is 100 remembrances!
📚 Al-Tahdhib, Vol. 8, p. 317
Abu Bakr al-Hadrami said: I was with Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) when a man asked him: 'A person gets sick and he vows, for the sake of thanking God, that if Allah heals him, he will give a 'great deal' from his wealth in charity, but he does not specify an amount. What do you say?' The Imam said: 'He gives 80 dirhams in charity, for this amount is sufficient for him, and this matter is clear in the Qur'an, where He says to His Prophet (in Surah Al-Tawbah, verse 25): 'Indeed, Allah has helped you in 'many' (kathir) locations,' and 'kathir' in the Book of Allah is eighty!'
📚 Ma'ani al-Akhbar, p. 218
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said about a person who vows to give a great deal of wealth in charity: 'Kathir' is from eighty and above, because of the saying of Allah the Most High (in Surah Al-Tawbah, verse 25) where He says:
meaning: 'Indeed, Allah has helped you in 'many' locations,' which were eighty locations!
📚 Thawab al-A'mal, p. 27
Yunus ibn Ya'qub said: I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): 'Is a person who says 'Subhan Allah' one hundred times among those who remember Allah 'greatly' (kathir)?' He said: 'Yes!'
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 428
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: 'On the night and the luminous day, which is the night of Friday and the day of Friday, send 'great' and abundant blessings upon me.' So it was asked: 'How much is 'great'?'
He said: 'From one hundred, and whatever is more is better!'
📚 Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 93, p. 159
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said about the saying of Allah the Most High (in Surah Al-Ahzab, verse 41): 'Remember Allah with a great remembrance,' he said: 'When a servant remembers his Lord one hundred times a day, that is 'great' (kathir)!'
📚 Al-Mahasin, Vol. 2, p. 300
Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said in a hadith: 'Indeed, some things are restrictive and do not run except on one face, and among them is the time of the Friday (Dhuhr) prayer, whose time is only one, and it is at the time of the sun's decline, and some matters are vast and run on 'many' faces, and this (i.e., the matter under discussion, which is not mentioned) is one of them. By Allah, there are seventy faces for it with me!'
📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 2, p. 26
Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said in a hadith: 'Has not Allah, the Almighty and Glorious, said (in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 245): 'so He will multiply it for him with 'many' (kathirah) multiples,' so the believers are those whose good deeds Allah, the Almighty and Glorious, multiplies to seventy times for each good deed, so this is the excellence of the believer (over the Muslim)!'
✅ It is observed that in the above narrations, the word 'kathir' is interpreted as 70, 80, 100, and more, for various matters. Although for our question, namely, praying 'a great deal' for the hastening of the relief, the interpretation of its number and quantity has not been narrated, some of its instances, such as 80, have been declared as an interpretation of 'kathir' in the Qur'an, and also in hadith 5️⃣, the meaning of 'kathir' is defined as 100 or more.
✅ The command to pray 'a great deal' for the hastening of the relief is one of the last commands of our Master during the time when it was possible to access him through his deputies, and it is fitting that we take the praying for the hastening of the relief out of the state of being little and bring it to the state of being 'great' (kathir) so that we have acted upon this command of our Master and that we may achieve the sight of the Seal of the Successors (prayers of Allah be upon him) as soon as possible, God willing.
✅ The statement of Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) in hadith 1️⃣, 'for indeed it is your relief,' can have two meanings, both of which have narrative support:
1️⃣ The arrival of the Master's relief is the arrival of the Shi'as' relief, and this meaning has come in the hadiths:
📚 Bisharat al-Mustafa, p. 113
Sufyan ibn Ibrahim said: I heard Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) say: 'Calamity begins with us and then reaches you, and blessing, comfort, and relief also begin with us and then reach you. I swear by the One by whom an oath is taken, Allah will surely take revenge on your behalf (from the opponents), just as He took revenge with stones (from the companions of the elephant)!'
So if the relief of our Master arrives, our relief will follow, so the relief of us, the Shi'as, is in the relief of our Master!
2️⃣ Or it could mean that being granted the success of praying for the hastening of the relief is a sign of relief and salvation from destruction for the Shi'as, and in this regard, it is narrated, among other things:
📚 Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 52, p. 22
Imam Askari (peace be upon him) said in a hadith: 'My son will certainly have an occultation, and in that occultation, no one will be saved from destruction except for the one whom Allah keeps firm on the belief in his Imamate and grants him success in praying for the hastening of his relief!'
✅ This means that the one who is granted the success of praying for the hastening of the relief has, in a way, reached his relief in terms of the success of waiting and salvation from destruction, and therefore Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said in the hadith of 📚 Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 52, p. 141:
The one who knows this matter has indeed reached his relief with this very expectation of his!
✅ So let's say 'kathir' (a great deal):
