✅ Answer: Consider the following narrations:

1 مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بِإِسْنَادِهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الصَّادِقِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: الْقُنُوتُ فِي الْوَتْرِ الِاسْتِغْفَارُ وَ فِي الْفَرِيضَةِ الدُّعَاءُ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: The Qunoot in the Witr prayer is for seeking forgiveness, and in obligatory prayers, it is for supplication!

2 عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّه عَنِ الْقُنُوتِ فِي الْوَتْرِ هَلْ فِيهِ شَيْ ءٌ مُوَقَّتٌ يُتَّبَعُ وَ يُقَالُ فَقَالَ لَا أَثْنِ عَلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ صَلِّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ وَ اسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنْبِكَ الْعَظِيمِ ثُمَّ قَالَ كُلُّ ذَنْبٍ عَظِيمٌ

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 450

Halbi asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about the Qunoot of the Witr prayer, whether something specific or fixed is followed and recited. He said: No, praise Allah the Mighty and Exalted, send blessings upon the Prophet (peace be upon him and his family), and seek forgiveness for your grave sins! Then he said: Every sin is grave!

3 عَنْ فَضَالَةَ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّه عَمَّا أَقُولُ: فِي وَتْرِي فَقَالَ مَا قَضَى اللَّهُ عَلَى لِسَانِكَ وَ قَدَّرَهُ.

📚 Al-Tahdhib, Vol. 2, p. 130

Ismail ibn Fadl says: I asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about what I should say in the Qunoot of my Witr prayer; the Imam said: Whatever Allah decrees and ordains for your tongue!

✅ From the above narrations, it is clear that no specific or fixed supplication is prescribed for the Qunoot of the Witr prayer, and like other Qunoots, any supplication can be used in the Qunoot of the Witr prayer.

✅ However, some supplications are recommended for the Qunoot of the Witr prayer, some of which are mentioned for use:

4 قالَ كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ سَيِّدُ الْعَابِدِينَ يَقُولُ الْعَفْوَ الْعَفْوَ ثَلَاثَمِائَةِ مَرَّةٍ فِي الْوَتْرِ فِي السَّحَرِ.

Sheikh Saduq narrated: The master of worshippers, Imam Sajjad (peace be upon him), would say 'Al-Afwa' (forgiveness) 300 times in the Witr prayer!

5 قَالَ: وَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ يَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ فِي الْوَتْرِ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً وَ يَقُولُ هَذَا مَقَامُ الْعَائِذِ بِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ.

Sheikh Saduq says: And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) would seek forgiveness 70 times in the Witr prayer and say 7 times:

هَذَا مَقَامُ الْعَائِذِ بِكَ مِنَ النَّارِ

6 Sheikh Saduq says: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) would say in the Qunoot of the Witr prayer:

اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِی فِیمَنْ هَدَیْتَ وَ عَافِنِی فِیمَنْ عَافَیْتَ وَ تَوَلَّنِی فِیمَنْ تَوَلَّیْتَ وَ بَارِکْ لِی فِیمَا أَعْطَیْتَ وَ قِنِی شَرَّ مَا قَضَیْتَ فَإِنَّکَ تَقْضِی وَ لَا یُقْضَی عَلَیْکَ سُبْحَانَکَ رَبِّ الْبَیْتِ أَسْتَغْفِرُکَ وَ أَتُوبُ إِلَیْکَ وَ أُومِنُ بِکَ وَ أَتَوَکَّلُ عَلَیْکَ لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِکَ یَا رَحِیمُ.

7 Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: The Qunoot in the Friday prayer consists of glorifying Allah, sending blessings upon the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him and his family), and words of relief (which, according to the narration of Imam Baqir in Al-Kafi, Vol. 3, p. 122, are:)

«لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَ رَبِّ الْأَرَضِينَ السَّبْعِ وَ مَا فِيهِنَّ وَ مَا بَيْنَهُنَّ وَ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ»

And then you recite this supplication (which follows), and the Qunoot in the Witr prayer is like the Qunoot in the Friday prayer, where before supplicating for yourself, you say:

اللَّهُمَّ تَمَّ نُورُکَ فَهَدَیْتَ فَلَکَ الْحَمْدُ رَبَّنَا وَ بَسَطْتَ یَدَکَ فَأَعْطَیْتَ فَلَکَ الْحَمْدُ رَبَّنَا وَ عَظُمَ حِلْمُکَ فَعَفَوْتَ فَلَکَ الْحَمْدُ رَبَّنَا وَجْهُکَ أَکْرَمُ الْوُجُوهِ وَ جِهَتُکَ خَیْرُ الْجِهَاتِ وَ عَطِیَّتُکَ أَفْضَلُ الْعَطِیَّاتِ وَ أَهْنَؤُهَا تُطَاعُ رَبَّنَا فَتَشْکُرُ وَ تُعْصَی رَبَّنَا فَتَغْفِرُ لِمَنْ شِئْتَ تُجِیبُ الْمُضْطَرَّ وَ تَکْشِفُ الضُّرَّ وَ تَشْفِی السَّقِیمَ وَ تُنْجِی مِنَ الْکَرْبِ الْعَظِیمِ لَا یَجْزِی بِآلَائِکَ أَحَدٌ وَ لَا یُحْصِی نَعْمَاءَکَ قَوْلُ قَائِلٍ اللَّهُمَّ إِلَیْکَ رُفِعَتِ الْأَبْصَارُ وَ نُقِلَتِ الْأَقْدَامُ وَ مُدَّتِ الْأَعْنَاقُ وَ رُفِعَتِ الْأَیْدِی وَ دُعِیَتْ بِالْأَلْسُنِ وَ إِلَیْکَ سِرُّهُمْ وَ نَجْوَاهُمْ فِی الْأَعْمَالِ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَ ارْحَمْنَا وَ افْتَحْ بَیْنَنَا وَ بَیْنَ قَوْمِنَا بِالْحَقِّ وَ أَنْتَ خَیْرُ الْفَاتِحِینَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَشْکُو إِلَیْکَ غَیْبَةَ نَبِیِّنَا عَنَّا وَ شِدَّةَ الزَّمَانِ عَلَیْنَا وَ وُقُوعَ الْفِتَنِ بِنَا وَ تَظَاهُرَ الْأَعْدَاءِ عَلَیْنَا وَ کَثْرَةَ عَدُوِّنَا وَ قِلَّةَ عَدَدِنَا فَرِّجْ ذَلِکَ یَا رَبِّ بِفَتْحٍ مِنْکَ تُعَجِّلُهُ وَ نَصْرٍ مِنْکَ تُعِزُّهُ وَ إِمَامٍ عَدْلٍ تُظْهِرُهُ إِلَهَ الْحَقِّ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِینَ

Then say 70 times:

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ رَبِّی وَ أَتُوبُ إِلَیْهِ

And seek refuge in Allah from the fire of Hell frequently!

8 Abu Hamza Thumali narrated that Imam Sajjad (peace be upon him) would say at the end of the Witr Qunoot while standing:

رَبِّ أَسَأْتُ وَ ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِی وَ بِئْسَ مَا صَنَعْتُ وَ هَذِهِ یَدَایَ جَزَاءً بِمَا صَنَعَتَا

The narrator says: Then he would spread both hands in front of his face and say:

وَ هَذِهِ رَقَبَتِی خَاضِعَةٌ لَکَ لِمَا أَتَتْ

Then he would lower his head, humbling his neck, and say:

وَ هَا أَنَا ذَا بَیْنَ یَدَیْکَ فَخُذْ لِنَفْسِکَ الرِّضَا مِنْ نَفْسِی حَتَّی تَرْضَی لَکَ الْعُتْبَی لَا أَعُودُ لَا أَعُودُ لَا أَعُودُ

The narrator says: By Allah, when Imam Sajjad (peace be upon him) said: 'La a’ud' (I will not return), he did not return!

9 Ma’ruf ibn Kharrabudh narrated from Imam Baqir or Imam Sadiq (peace be upon them) who said: In the Qunoot of the Witr prayer, say:

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْحَلِیمُ الْکَرِیمُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْعَلِیُّ الْعَظِیمُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رَبِّ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَ رَبِّ الْأَرَضِینَ السَّبْعِ وَ مَا فِیهِنَّ وَ مَا بَیْنَهُنَّ و رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِیمِ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ نُورُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ الْأَرْضِ وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ زَیْنُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ الْأَرْضِ وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ جَمَالُ السَّمَاوَاتِ و الْأَرْضِ وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ عِمَادُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ الْأَرْضِ وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ قِوَامُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ الْأَرْضِ وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ صَرِیخُ الْمُسْتَصْرِخِینَ وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ غِیَاثُ الْمُسْتَغِیثِینَ وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ الْمُفَرِّجُ عَنِ الْمَکْرُوبِینَ وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ الْمُرَوِّحُ عَنِ الْمَغْمُومِینَ وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ مُجِیبُ دَعْوَةِ الْمُضْطَرِّینَ وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ إِلَهُ الْعَالَمِینَ وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ الرَّحْمَنُ الرَّحِیمُ وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ کَاشِفُ السُّوءِ وَ أَنْتَ اللَّهُ بِکَ مُنْزَلٌ کُلُّ حَاجَةٍ یَا اللَّهُ لَیْسَ یَرُدُّ غَضَبَکَ إِلَّا حِلْمُکَ وَ لَا یُنْجِی مِنْ عَذَابِکَ إِلَّا رَحْمَتُکَ وَ لَا یُنْجِی مِنْکَ إِلَّا التَّضَرُّعُ إِلَیْکَ فَهَبْ لِی مِنْ لَدُنْکَ یَا إِلَهِی رَحْمَةً تُغْنِینِی بِهَا عَنْ رَحْمَةِ مَنْ سِوَاکٍ بِالْقُدْرَةِ الَّتِی بِهَا أَحْیَیْتَ جَمِیعَ مَا فِی الْبِلَادِ وَ بِهَا تَنْشُرُ مَیْتَ الْعِبَادِ وَ لَا تُهْلِکْنِی غَمّاً حَتَّی تَغْفِرَ لِی وَ تَرْحَمَنِی وَ تُعَرِّفَنِی الِاسْتِجَابَةَ فِی دُعَائِی وَ ارْزُقْنِی الْعَافِیَةَ إِلَی مُنْتَهَی أَجَلِی وَ أَقِلْنِی عَثْرَتِی وَ لَا تُشْمِتْ بِی عَدُوِّی وَ لَا تُمَکِّنْهُ مِنْ رَقَبَتِی اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ رَفَعْتَنِی فَمَنْ ذَا الَّذِی یَضَعُنِی وَ إِنْ وَضَعْتَنِی فَمَنْ ذَا الَّذِی یَرْفَعُنِی وَ إِنْ أَهْلَکْتَنِی فَمَنْ ذَا الَّذِی یَحُولُ بَیْنَکَ وَ بَیْنِی أَوْ یَتَعَرَّضُ لَکَ فِی شَیْ ءٍ مِنْ أَمْرِی وَ قَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنْ لَیْسَ فِی حُکْمِکَ ظُلْمٌ وَ لَا فِی نَقِمَتِکَ عَجَلَةٌ إِنَّمَا یَعْجَلُ مَنْ یَخَافُ الْفَوْتَ وَ إِنَّمَا یَحْتَاجُ إِلَی الظُّلْمِ الضَّعِیفُ وَ قَدْ تَعَالَیْتَ عَنْ ذَلِک یَا إِلَهِی فَلَا تَجْعَلْنِی لِلْبَلَاءِ غَرَضاً وَ لَا لِنَقِمَتِکَ نَصَباً وَ مَهِّلْنِی وَ نَفِّسْنِی و أَقِلْنِی عَثْرَتِی وَ لَا تُتْبِعْنِی بِبَلَاءٍ علی أَثَرِ بَلَاءٍ فَقَدْ تَرَی ضَعْفِی وَ قِلَّةَ حِیلَتِی أَسْتَعِیذُ بِک اللَّیْلَةَ فَأَعِذْنِی وَ أَسْتَجِیرُ بِکَ مِنَ النَّارِ فَأَجِرْنِی وَ أَسْأَلُکَ الْجَنَّةَ فَلَا تَحْرِمْنِی

Then supplicate for whatever you wish and seek forgiveness 70 times.

10 عن أبی عبدالله أَنَّهُ قال مَنْ قال فی وَتْرِهِ إِذَا أَوْتَر أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ رَبِّی وَ أَتُوبُ إِلَیْهِ سَبْعِینَ مَرَّةً وَ وَاظَبَ عَلَی ذَلِکَ حَتَّی تَمْضِیَ سَنَةٌ کَتَبَهُ اللَّهُ عِنْدَهُ مِنَ الْمُسْتَغْفِرِینَ بِالْأَسْحَار و وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ و الْمَغْفِرَةُ مِن اللَّه عَزَّوجَلَّ

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): Whoever says in their Witr prayer 70 times:

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ رَبِّی وَ أَتُوبُ إِلَیْهِ

And persists in this for a year, the Lord will record them among those who seek forgiveness in the pre-dawn hours, and Paradise and forgiveness from Allah the Mighty and Exalted will become obligatory for them!

✅ Those who seek forgiveness in the pre-dawn hours are praised in the verses of Surah Aal-E-Imran as follows:

قُلْ أَؤُنَبِّئُكُم بِخَيْرٍ مِّن ذَلِكُمْ لِلَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا وَأَزْوَاجٌ مُّطَهَّرَةٌ وَرِضْوَانٌ مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ بَصِيرٌ بِالْعِبَاد(۱۵)الَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّار(۱۶)الصَّابِرِينَ وَالصَّادِقِينَ وَالْقَانِتِينَ وَالْمُنفِقِينَ وَالْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَ بِالْأَسْحَار(۱۷)

Say: Shall I not inform you of something better than this (worldly possessions)? For those who adopt piety, there are gardens with their Lord beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, and pure spouses, and the pleasure of Allah. And Allah is All-Seeing of His servants.

Those who say: Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us our sins and protect us from the punishment of Hellfire,

The patient,

The truthful,

The obedient,

Those who spend in charity,

And those who seek forgiveness in the pre-dawn hours.

1 1 Amir al-Mu’minin (peace be upon him) would recite this supplication in the Qunoot of the Witr prayer:

اللَّهُمَّ خَلَقْتَنِی بِتَقْدِیرٍ وَ تَدْبِیرٍ وَ تَبْصِیرٍ بِغَیْرِ تَقْصِیرٍ وَ أَخْرَجْتَنِی مِنْ ظُلُمَاتٍ ثَلَاثٍ بِحَوْلِکَ وَ قُوَّتِکَ أُحَاوِلُ الدُّنْیَا ثُمَّ أُزَاوِلُهَا ثُمَّ أُزَایِلُهَا وَ آتَیْتَنِی فِیهَا الْکَلَأَ وَ الْمَرْعَی وَ بَصَّرْتَنِی فِیهَا الْهُدَی فَنِعْمَ الرَّبُّ أَنْتَ وَ نِعْمَ الْمَوْلَی فَیَا مَنْ کَرَّمَنِی وَ شَرَّفَنِی وَ نَعَّمَنِی أَعُوذُ بِکَ مِنَ الزَّقُّومِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِکَ مِنَ الْحَمِیمِ وَ أَعُوذُ بِکَ مِنْ مَقِیلٍ فِی النَّارِ بَیْنَ أَطْبَاقِ النَّارِ فِی ظِلَالِ النَّارِ یَوْمَ النَّارِ یَا رَبَّ النَّارِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّی أَسْأَلُکَ مَقِیلًا فِی الْجَنَّةِ بَیْنَ أَنْهَارِهَا وَ أَشْجَارِهَا وَ ثِمَارِهَا وَ رَیْحَانِهَا وَ خَدَمِهَا وَ أَزْوَاجِهَا اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّی أَسْأَلُکَ خَیْرَ الْخَیْرِ رِضْوَانَکَ وَ الْجَنَّةَ وَ أَعُوذُ بِکَ مِنْ شَرِّ الشَّرِّ سَخَطِکَ وَ النَّارِ

هَذَا مَقَامُ الْعَائِذِ بِکَ مِنَ النَّارِ (سه بار)

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ خَوْفَکَ فِی جَسَدِی کُلِّهِ وَ اجْعَلْ قَلْبِی أَشَدَّ مَخَافَةً لَکَ مِمَّا هُوَ وَ اجْعَلْ لِی فِی کُلِّ یَوْمٍ وَ لَیْلَةٍ حَظّاً وَ نَصِیباً مِنْ عَمَلٍ بِطَاعَتِکَ وَ اتِّبَاعِ مَرْضَاتِکَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ مُنْتَهَی غَایَتِی وَ رَجَائِی وَ مَسْأَلَتِی وَ طَلِبَتِی أَسْأَلُکَ یَا إِلَهِی کَمَالَ الْإِیمَانِ وَ تَمَامَ الْیَقِینِ وَ صِدْقَ التَّوَکُّلِ عَلَیْکَ وَ حُسْنَ الظَّنِّ بِکَ یَا سَیِّدِی اجْعَلْ إِحْسَانِی مُضَاعَفاً وَ صَلَاتِی تَضَرُّعاً وَ دُعَائِی مُسْتَجَاباً وَ عَمَلِی مَقْبُولًا وَ سَعْیِی مَشْکُوراً وَ ذَنْبِی مَغْفُوراً وَ لَقِّنِّی مِنْکَ نَضْرَةً وَ سُرُوراً وَ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَی مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِهِ.

2 1 عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّه يَقُولُ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ بِالْأَسْحارِ هُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ فِي الْوَتْرِ فِي آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً.

Mu’awiya ibn Ammar says: I heard Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) regarding the saying of Allah the Mighty and Exalted: 'And in the pre-dawn hours they seek forgiveness,' say: It means they seek forgiveness 70 times in the Witr prayer at the end of the night.

✅ The above verse is in Surah Al-Dhariyat, verse 18:

إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ وَعُيُونٍ (۱۵)

آخِذِينَ مَا آتَاهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ مُحْسِنِينَ (۱۶)

كَانُوا قَلِيلًا مِّنَ اللَّيْلِ مَا يَهْجَعُونَ (۱۷)

وَبِالْأَسْحَارِ هُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ (۱۸)

وَفِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ لِّلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ (۱۹)

Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and springs,

Receiving what their Lord has given them, for they were before that among the doers of good!

They slept but little of the night,

And in the pre-dawn hours they sought forgiveness,

And in their wealth was a right for the beggar and the deprived!

3 1 عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّه قَالَ: قَالَ لِي اسْتَغْفِرِ اللَّهَ فِي الْوَتْرِ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً.

Mansur says: Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) told me: In the Qunoot of the Witr prayer, seek forgiveness 70 times.

4 1 عَنْ فَضَالَةَ عَنْ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لَهُ الْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَ بِالْأَسْحارِ فَقَالَ اسْتَغْفَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ فِي الْوَتْرِ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً.

Abu Basir says: I said to Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): What are 'those who seek forgiveness in the pre-dawn hours'? He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) sought forgiveness 70 times in the Witr prayer.

5 1 عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّه قَالَ: اسْتَغْفِرِ اللَّهَ فِي الْوَتْرِ سَبْعِينَ مَرَّةً تَنْصِبُ يَدَكَ الْيُسْرَى وَ تَعُدُّ بِالْيُمْنَى الِاسْتِغْفَارَ.

📚 Al-Faqih, Vol. 1, p. 489

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: In the Witr prayer, seek forgiveness 70 times, (in this manner:) set up your left hand and count the forgiveness with your right hand!

6 1 Raja ibn Abi Dahhak narrated regarding the practice of Imam Reza (peace be upon him) in worship: ... Then he would rise and perform the one-rak’ah Witr prayer, reciting Surah Al-Fatiha, three times Surah Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad, one time Surah Qul A’udhu bi-Rabbil-Falaq, and one time Surah Qul A’udhu bi-Rabbin-Nas, and in it, before bowing and after recitation, he would perform Qunoot, saying in his Qunoot:

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنَا فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ وَ عَافِنَا فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ وَ تَوَلَّنَا فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ وَ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَ قِنَا شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ فَإِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَ لَا يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ إِنَّهُ لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ وَ لَا يَعِزُّ مَنْ عَادَيْتَ تَبَارَكْتَ رَبَّنَا وَ تَعَالَيْتَ

Then he would say 70 times:

أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَ أَسْأَلُهُ التَّوْبَةَ

✅ It should be noted that the popular practice of supplicating for 40 believers in the Qunoot of the Witr prayer does not have a specific narration attributed to the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) for the Qunoot of the Witr prayer. However, it is generally narrated that:

7 1 عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّه قَالَ: مَنْ قَدَّمَ أَرْبَعِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ثُمَّ دَعَا اسْتُجِيبَ لَهُ.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 2, p. 509

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: Whoever prioritizes 40 believers and then supplicates, their supplication will be answered!

✅ In conclusion, the following narration is offered to the believers:

8 1 مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ الدَّيْلَمِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّه يَا سُلَيْمَانُ لَا تَدَعْ قِيَامَ اللَّيْلِ فَإِنَّ الْمَغْبُونَ مَنْ حُرِمَ قِيَامَ اللَّيْلِ.

Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) said to Suleiman Daylami: O Suleiman, do not abandon the night prayer, for the one who is deprived of the night prayer is truly at a loss!

اللَّهُمَّ عَجِّلْ لِوَلِیِّکَ الْفَرَجَ وَ الْعَافِیَةَ وَ النَّصْرَ
