Abd al-Rahman ibn Hajjaj said: I asked Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) about a woman whom a man has taken in temporary marriage, and then her husband (during the period of her contract) passes away. I asked if she has to observe 'iddah' or not? The Imam said: She must observe a waiting period of four months and ten days. But if her term has ended and her husband is still alive, she should observe one and a half menstrual cycles, similar to what is obligatory for a slave woman (for 'iddah')....

Zurarah said: I asked Imam al-Baqir (peace be upon him): How long is the waiting period for a 'mut'ah' (temporary) marriage, if the man who has taken this woman in temporary marriage passes away (during the period of the temporary marriage)? The Imam said: Four months and ten days!
Zurarah said: Then Imam al-Baqir (peace be upon him) said: O Zurarah, in every type of marriage, if the husband dies, whether the woman is free or a slave, and whatever the form of the marriage may be, whether it is temporary marriage, permanent marriage, or 'milk yamin' (concubinage), then the waiting period is four months and ten days.....
✅According to the Shia narrations, two of which were mentioned, in all types of marriage—whether permanent or temporary—if the woman's husband passes away, that woman is obligated to observe the 'iddah' of death, which is four months and ten days, and then she may remarry if she wishes.
Therefore, if a man dies during the period of 'mut'ah', meaning temporary marriage, that woman is obligated to observe the 'iddah' of death, which is four months and ten days, and if someone marries this woman during this period, they are subject to the rulings for marrying a woman during her 'iddah'.
