Question 579: If several earthquakes occur on the same day, is one 'Salat al-Ayat' sufficient, or should a separate prayer be performed for each earthquake?
Answer
✅Answer: Pay attention to the following narrations:

Sulayman al-Daylami asked Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) about an earthquake, asking what it is. He said: 'It is a 'sign' (Ayah).' I said: 'What is its cause?' He said: 'Indeed, Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, has appointed an angel over the 'veins' of the earth. So when Allah wills to shake a land, He reveals to that angel: 'Shake the 'vein' of such-and-such land!' So that angel shakes the 'vein' of that land which Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, has commanded, and as a result, that land shakes its people!'
Sulayman said: I asked the Imam: 'When this happens, what should I do?' He said: 'Pray the eclipse prayer (Salat al-Ayat). And when you finish the prayer, prostrate to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, and in the prostration, you should say: ...'

📚 Amali al-Saduq, p. 375
Imam Baqir (peace be upon him) said: 'Indeed, earthquakes and solar and lunar eclipses and terrifying winds are signs of the Hour (of Resurrection). So when you see something of that, remember the establishment of the Hour and take refuge in your mosques!'

Imam Baqir and Imam Sadiq (peace be upon them) said: 'When an eclipse or one of the 'signs' occurs, then as long as you do not fear that the time for the present obligatory prayer will be missed, pray the (Salat al-Ayat). And if you fear that the time for the obligatory (daily) prayer will be missed, interrupt the Salat al-Ayat and begin the daily obligatory prayer. And when you have finished the obligatory prayer, return to the point where you interrupted the Salat al-Ayat and count the part of the Salat al-Ayat you had already prayed!'
✅ According to the general narrations received, when an earthquake occurs, a person becomes obligated to perform Salat al-Ayat, which he must pray. Although no specific time is designated for it, its performance is commanded from the moment the earthquake occurs. If another earthquake occurs a few hours later, another obligation to perform Salat al-Ayat is placed upon us, and there is no reason to consider a single prayer sufficient for both. At the same time, the caution instructed in the narrations of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) requires that a separate Salat al-Ayat be prayed for each earthquake, even if the interval between them is an hour or less or more.
