Question 47: Should we only curse the killer of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) when drinking water, or does it apply to all beverages?

✅ Answer: First, the relevant narration is mentioned:

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p. 391

Translation: Dawood Raqi said: I was with Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) when he requested water. When he drank it, I saw his eyes fill with tears, and he began to weep. Then he said to me: 'O Dawood, may Allah curse the killer of Hussein. How bitter is the memory of Hussein! Indeed, I never drink cold water without remembering Hussein.' He continued, 'There is no servant who drinks water, remembers Hussein and his family, and curses his killer except that Allah, the Almighty, grants him one hundred thousand good deeds, erases one hundred thousand sins, raises him one hundred thousand degrees, and it is as if he has freed one hundred thousand slaves in the way of Allah. Moreover, Allah will resurrect him on the Day of Judgment with a heart full of tranquility.'

✅ As seen in this narration, it specifically refers to drinking water and may not necessarily apply to other beverages. However, we present a general hadith that can be followed whenever we remember our oppressed master:

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 4, p. 575

Translation: Hussein ibn Thawir said: Younus ibn Zabyan and I were with Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him), and Younus was the eldest among us. He said: 'I frequently remember Hussein. What should I say at such times?' The Imam replied: 'Say three times: (peace be upon him), for the greeting reaches him whether from near or far.'
