Answer

✅Answer: One of the most comprehensive narrations about the manner of visiting Imam Husayn (peace be upon him), which includes many etiquettes from before leaving for the pilgrimage until the completion of the visit, is a narration that Ibn Qulawayh (may Allah have mercy on him) has narrated in the book Kamil al-Ziyarat. Please pay attention to a few parts of this narration:

Translation: Thumali narrated from Imam Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) that he said: 'When you intend to travel towards Imam Husayn (peace be upon him), then fast on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Then when you intend to leave for the journey, gather your family and children and recite the travel supplication and perform ghusl before leaving...'

Until he said: '...and do not anoint your body with oil or apply kohl until you reach the Euphrates, and speak and joke less, and mention Allah, the Most High, a lot, and refrain from joking, arguing, and quarreling...'

Until he said:

'Then go to Nainawa and leave your luggage there, and as long as you are staying there (i.e., Nainawa or Karbala), do not anoint yourself with oil, or apply kohl, or eat meat, and then you come to the riverbank opposite the palm trees of the grave and perform ghusl while you are wearing an izar (waist wrap)...'

✅In the long and comprehensive narration above, which is narrated on the topic of visiting Imam Husayn (peace be upon him), one of the etiquettes during the stay in Karbala is mentioned as refraining from eating meat, as well as refraining from anointing oneself with oil and applying kohl. The apparent meaning of the narration is general and includes the meat inside the votive and blessed foods of Karbala. If someone wants to observe this etiquette, they should absolutely abstain from eating meat during their stay in Karbala.

It should be noted that the apparent meaning of this command is specific to the pilgrims and does not include the residents of Karbala.

✅ Refraining from eating meat during the stay in Karbala is one of the etiquettes of visiting Imam Husayn (peace be upon him), which should be observed, if Allah wills.

✅The above narration is a very comprehensive narration for performing the visit to Imam Husayn (peace be upon him) that contains several supplications and various visitations in its text, and we should benefit from its blessing, if Allah wills.
