Question 31: In the narrations where it says 'عند الصلاة' meaning 'near prayer,' does it refer to before the prayer or after the prayer?

✅ Answer: We know from the interpretation of the verse 'خذوا زینتکم عند کل مسجد' that it is narrated:

Translation: Imam Kazim (peace be upon him) explained the verse 'Take your adornment at every mosque' by saying: Among these adornments is combing the hair when present for every prayer.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p. 489

From a linguistic perspective, 'عند الصلاة' is often understood to mean before the prayer and while preparing for the prayer. However, general narrations also mention combing the hair and beard, and even eyebrows, at other times, which are noted in their respective places.

Additionally, after the prayer, there is also a tradition from our master, Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him), regarding combing the hair, which is presented for establishing the practice:

Translation: A narrator said: I heard Imam Kazim (peace be upon him) say: 'Combing eliminates epidemics,' and Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him) had a comb in the mosque, which he used after finishing the prayer.

📚 Al-Kafi, Vol. 6, p. 488

Given these narrations, we should not forget to comb our hair before and after prayer, as there are numerous benefits mentioned in the hadiths regarding combing.
